Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

That's the same for the GTI as it is for the R? I had a feeling the W4B option code was an R-specific thing (could well be wrong though).

All good, I'm not too fussed if its a 3 or 5 door, as long as I don't have to pay the difference

      • Yeah AdamD, it's the same for GTI's and R's.

Those dealer marketting blurbs that we occasionally see where the 3 and 5 door models are listed with different model codes (such as the R, 5K1RX7 for 5 door DSG and 5K1RX72 for 3 door DSG), when the order goes through, they're both 5K1RX7 and the only diff is the presence of that option code (or lack thereof).

W4B is actually the option code for "Power windows front and rear".
So when a dealer puts in an order in NADCON, there are some standard option codes already present. If they want a 5 door car, they leave the W4B listed. If they want a 3 door car, they place a "-" (minus) in front of the code and it gets removed.

The above info is how it's been explained to me by a dealer when I queried them in the past to help explain this process for the forum members about 4 months ago. The next info is what I've gathered from looking at Erwin and vehicle spec sheets for my car, and a few other forum members cars who've shared their VIN with me and is accurate for both GTI and R's.

At some point in the process (maybe during the "buildability check" or "handover to production" stages), when the "Pr-numbers" for a car gets created, Con. No. 1 is either 0A2 (4 doors) or 0A1 (2 doors). Both types have the 4R4 "Power windows with comfort operation and circuit breaker", and then only the 4 door models will have W4B.

        • Thanks to this forum I learnt about NADCON screens. When I asked the dealer for a copy I noticed that they had forgotten to order sat nav which was quickly rectified. None of the manufacturers of my previous cars ever had systems in place that allowed me to check that the dealer ordered the correct thing nor the ability to check what has been built. So I say to VW

Ah yes, I see. On my spec list, W4B is listed as "4-door incl. power windows rear". Mine is of course a 5K19V3 (with 0A2), but then that's to be expected as it's a 4-door.

            • Hi Corey thanks for the info on the Erwin site. I have subscribed for an hr and checked my R. Everything seems to be in order except for the Xenon headlights. I can't seem to find any mention of them anywhere. Does anyone know if it actually lists them with Xenon in the wording or something else?

Haha your R might become a "special" limited edition model if it came without Xenons! I hope VW doesn't make mistakes on "standard" equipment!

                        • Well its good to see something positive has arisen from the issue I faced. I didn't mean to open a can of worms, but it looks like since my post everyone seems to be checking their cars which is great. I'm really happy now with the outcome. After looking through a few photos I now love the Carbon Grey, and I now get a free sunroof. I am a huge believer in things happen for a reason. Biggest issue for me is the extra month wait. Oh well, I've waited this long, what's an extra month.

                              Great. Happy for you too.

I can just imagine your initial reaction when they broke the bad news to you. Lot's of four letter words, I would think. And probably shorten your lifespan a little bit.

                              • I dunno, if a grey car arrived instead of the Black, i'd wait for the correct one even if it took another 6 months. I'd always be thinkin' I compromised... Better man than me Gunga Din...
