I see a 3 door carbon steel gti everyday, the one I bought 5 months ago...

Why i love the 3 doors
    - It looks great.
    - b pillar is futher back, so it feels less cramped, as mentioned in a previous post

    Why I wish i had 5 doors
    - people getting in the back - the seat release mechanism isn't always intuitive, and its a bit of a hassle sometimes.
    - loading large objects - sometimes its useful to have open the back door to help lift something in.

Also - although i love the carbon steel, i reckon i would get the silver if i had my time again. CS gets dirty pretty quickly, and the car profiles view is better with the silver, due to the black strip under the doors. This kind of makes the lighter coloured cars look leaner...

In Melbourne so far what I've seen are 99% 5 door GTI, and 99% of Golf on the road have sunroof... including mine

Interesting re the sunroof. Must say I don't see that many sunroofs in Qld. Maybe we get more than enough ultraviolet and skin cancers without having to do it in the car as well

It was a few years back, and referred to the Mk5, but I think the figure given was the 3dr represented about 7% of GTI sales. While I lament we don't get the Scirocco here, I guess it's good that VGA have persisted with the 3dr GTIs and Rs, given they account for so few sales.

If the weather plays out kindly this weekend, I'll take some shots with my SLR. In 3 door style of course.

And I swear that half the Golf's on the road down here (be it Mk5 or Mk6) are GTI's! Almost always 5 door and driven by old ladies. Hey I might be able to get myself a sugar mumma, wonder if the missus would allow it

Don't see too many 3drs, but that's a good thing as it means that if I do decide to go down the GTI route I will be somewhat unique.

I did see a 50ish yo lady gawk at my car at some traffic lights. She was driving a 5 door base Golf. She had probably never seen a 3 door version. Bit of a weird moment as well.

I think unique would mean you are the only one.
One thing to consider is the limited market you will have if you later choose to sell the 3 door privately. Not many people want 3 door cars.

Sure they do... but this isn't the thread for it. There are already 3 vs 5 door discussion threads....

That's not necessarily a bad thing. I've only had 2 door cars, and I have had great success with selling them fast. I've kept my previous cars in pristine condition, low kms, and always appears as a "standout" within the carsales network.
