  • the clicking noise is driving me crazy!

The dealer insulated (not sure exactly what) the outside black shiny plastic panels on the B pillar part of each front door. That is, they took the black plastic off, stuck some insulating tape between the metal part of the door and the black plastic piece. The noise disappeared and has never returned.

I believe was/is a common problem and a dealer should know about it. I'm actually surprised that VW hasn't fixed this at the factory - as it's a very simple fix to a very annoying problem.

    Hope this helps!
hey guys, i know it been discussed before but I still could not figure it out.
I've noticed the clicking/ticking noises from the driver and passenger-side B-pillar and its driving me crazy! is it a known issue? because my dealer has no knowledge of this kind of problem, do the insulation under the black plastic works?
    plz help!
    thanks

It worked for me but the service manager at my local dealer insisted on taking it out so he could fix it properly. Whatever they did has worked perfectly for three weeks. All he told me is it was a mechanical fix, not just lube. Maybe door catch adjustment?

      • My 1.5 month old MY13 GTI developed a really bad rattle about 2 weeks ago which sounded like it was coming from the drivers side B pillar. Based on info in this thread I pushed on door frames/windows from the outside, and low and behold the rear drivers side door started to make the exact rattle noise that was driving me insane.

Looks like the bad door seal/felt issue. Went to bunnings, bought a 10 metre roll of 4mm irrigation tubing for $4. Fitted it all along the felt seal along the door. Rattle gone! Back to a brand new no rattle car!!

Thanks for all the help guys!!

        • I will like to say a big thank you to whoever suggested Gummi fledge, and also to the one that mentioned the crucial areas that mustn't be left out. I ordered the product online for $14 or so and applied it the first time but still continued to sound like the door lock was loose. So I decided to lubricate all the locks and no change whatsoever. Finally I decided to go back to the thread and read everything again. And lo and behold I stumbled on the tip on applying it to a particular door seal that the front door closes on. I did it, left it to dry and cruised it on the crappy road in my area and guess what NO SINGLE RATTLE at all! Now I love my sweet 90tsi again. Thanks for everyone in this forum, you rock!

          • Mine is a rattle in and around the driver's footwell. it only occurs in winter which suggests the cold temp is contracting something probably made of metal. of course it only makes a "metalic rattle" noise (kind of like a marble bouncing on a tile at hight frequency) when I'm stopped in traffic and that's only two hours a day! kill me.
            Any ideas??

Just had Austral fix a similar issue with an intermittent noise today. They diagnosed it as the fuel line and protective sheath running in a channel from the engine bay down past drivers seat. They have injected a foam filler in the cavity to stop the noise. Will see how it goes.

                • Lubricant to cure door creaking.

Does anyone know what lubricant and where you apple to cure the creaking? I've taken this to vw and the lubricant lasted about 1year, the noise is back. Apparently, it's a known defect .

                  • Loosen the latch mechanism, and spray silicone lube between the latch and the door where their surfaces touch. Then re-tighten the latch firmly.

                        • Rubber door seal creak

Need some help. The rubber door seals on my doors are very creaky. Most noticeable when driving over rougher surfaces or slowly over very uneven. Have had them replaced before under VW Warranty but new extended warranty doesn’t cover them. So I have tried all sorts of lubricants to stop the creaking. Used an expensive preservative/lubricating oil, silicone spray even Vaseline. Not effect, although the Vaseline now seems to have made the door a bit sticky. The oil and silicone were absorbed by the runner in minutes.

Anyone else had this issue and been able to solve, without replacing them?

                          Many thanks.

Google "Einszett Gummi Pflege" - I have used it as a regular treatment - easy to apply like a shoe polish applicator.

                            • The only thing that will work in my experience is Gummni Pfledge, carcareproducts sell it. You're probably going to need to get the oily stuff off as well - use a general purpose cleaner/detergent. This is what the dealers use anyway (even if it is rebranded and charged at 4x the cost.....BMW....cough....)

                              • Also lubricate the latch mechanisms.

The door seals are only a small part of the problem.
