Well as you can imagine im pretty upset over my R getting hit in the rear and shunted into a brand new Audi Q5 (Less than a Month old). At this stage I have no idea what the quote will come in at, but after having to wait 8 Months for my car, then only own it for 2 Months before this.. im devastated, angry, and a whole range of emotions actually.
Luckily only had some whiplash as a result, but he hit me pretty hard
To give you an idea, although it does not look much on this 4WD, the thing also had to be towed as well. Fk I was angry at the guy who hit us..
Will let you know how it all pans out.
Sorry to hear about the accident....
but that is a massive bull bar.. on that car...
looks like the accident was on Kings Way on the bridge near crown
Sorry to hear about your accident BezzyR and I really feel for you having the wait and driving for only two months. I know what it is like - 5mth wait for GTI last year, had it 5 month and was written off in an innocuous accident in November 2010. My new GTI is waiting on the docks in Bremerhaven trying to thumb a lift to Australia. It is a very frustrating time. Glad you are ok - cars do get fixed or replaced.

Yeah I am with AAMI, it is being assessed at the moment, its really in the hands of the people doing the assesment I spose Dave.. until they rip panels etc off I wont really know the extent of the damage.. I have a choice of repairer to come and quote, but I have no idea, so did some research and selected some euro repair places from down Mornington way who have a good reputation to also come and asses it.
I was always told that if you're with AAMI, hope for writeoff. Didn't think they allowed choice of repairer and only used AAMI approved panelbeaters?
Hope it all works out in the end, the wait will be painful!
I used to be with AAMI when I had a Toyota. At one point I was at a very well respected repairer out my way, who were AAMI certified, and we were talking about my car and I mentioned I was going to get a BMW 1 or VW Golf soon. He said to me, whatever you do, don't risk being with AAMI when you have a great car like that!
To quote someone else regarding AAMI and why you don't want to use their repairers "Only certain repairers can fix rear end damage on the Golf due to the laser welds on the turret. It has to be cut off and glued back on when replacing the rear quarter panel."
Not being a panelbeater, wouldn't have a clue if its legit or not!

Just says it all really.
About a year ago I had an excellent experience with AAMI when my car got rear-ended (by an idiot on a bike, no less)
Drive busted up car to AAMI centre, they pay for cab anywhere I like... 12 days later I get my car back good as new. No idea why anyone complains about AAMI, got it all done quickly, professionally and no fuss whatsoever -- OEM parts too by the looks of things.
Because other insurance companies do that as well... BUT, AAMI takes several people to come and quote and then take the lowest bidder. This means you're lucky to end up with a great result, rather than guaranteed. Also, many well respected repairers won't even quote for AAMI jobs (if you chose to get your own quotes and not use their center) and if they will quote, they charge a fee, simply because they know from experience of the issues involved with dealing with their process.
Anyway - there's an entire other thread about that with numerous forum members bad experiences with them.
My experience has been pretty good so far.. I have been able to ask up to 2 choice of repairers to come and quote on the car... So far est is around $16k

Just got a scrape along the side by an old mate who doesn't know how to reverse out of a parking spot with a car next to him. Got the drivers side rear guard, bumper and also marked the Talledega. The guy said to get a couple of quotes so might take it to Curran's at Lidcombe and Exquisite at Granville. A friends brother is a painter at Exquisite and I've heard they do good work.

A few years back when my Subi STi was new, my wife badly scraped one of my rims. I wasn't with her when it happened and she freaked out because she knew I'd crack the ****s. So she sneakily went to a panelbeater and they fortunately had an exact same (without damage) spare wheel which they swapped over. I didn't notice any change and she didn't say anything to me about it until about a year later! lol
Apparently the panelbeater had a laugh at her wanting to do it on the sly without me knowing, they must get it all the time. Maybe that's why they had a spare.
