The local dealer says that warranty is void if there is something wrong with the dash
The sweeping needles is a feature of the instrumentation controller, and not something wrong. The dealer would be extremely hard pressed to even attempt to claim that any part of your warranty is void based on the observation that you have it turned on.

But, to answer your question... yes, I'm sure it can be disabled by just zeroing the staging bit (I'm not in front of VCDS at the moment so can't test it / give you specific instructions).

I agree - I said that if the Golf R is the same dash and does it, what could go wrong?

They claim that it wasn't std, remapping the software etc etc void the warranty blah blah blah.

At least I know it can be done - to reverse to avoid the conversations to have later with VW

To be honest, it's attitudes like the above that would push me to swap dealers for servicing. For small issues I'd overlook it, but if your dealer isn't prepared to be understanding and appreciative of such a situation (and employ a sane approach toward dealing with any potential risk), then I wouldn't be paying them good money to just encourage it.

If the dealer finds a problem with your car and could reasonably attribute it to an error caused by you, then they should notify you of that and they'd be within their rights to refuse to warrant a fix. But insinuating that your change will void your warranty without a detailed investigation is both insulting and potentially downright wrong (if they are not legally within their rights under statute to refuse a warranty claim).

Anyhow, end rant. For this, you may decide it's just easier to revert the change.

Got this now working - it is pretty cool.

I do notice that when it does the 'dance', the dash lights remain off (the white lights) until it is complete. Assume that this is pretty normal for all GTIs which have done it? Now it does what the Audis/Aston Martins do!

Now you just have to find a way to make the MFD say Power, Beauty, Soul when you start it up

GTI, R, Passat CC... all the VWs I've seen that do it, do it that way.

I have the 2011 GTI 35ed and recently purchased the vagcom as well. Got my way with many other options, but I cannot get the staging to work. Any suggestions? Appreciate any pointers.

How do we set the custom splahscreen on the rcd 510? I have vagcom but cannot find the appropriate setting.

You change that by burning it onto a custom firmware CD.

same thing on the RS - Octavia II Staging (Needle Sweep) - YouTube

looks good initially......then the novelty wears off after a while.

Perhaps ask this in the Polo section?
