I suppose people wanting to know the price of the Golf R, all we have to go off is the R32 pricing, and the word from VWA that it would be 'Between the GTI and R32'.
So if you can afford the R32, you can afford the R. Simple really.
Great News regardless. Just ashame that the wont have the pricing out for a couple of months still.
However the more people pre-ordering the car, the better the price may end up being! So for the guys on here not worried about price! ORDER IT!

VW will easily sell all the 5 and 3 cars no probs providing the price isn't dumb. Thats the killer they price the vehicle at what they "think" the market will pay. In Aus its accepted that you can screw everyone for more that other market citing lower volume and taxes and so on but in reality the profits are still quite large compared to other countries

Hey guys. I just merged Guy_H's thread into here, and also decided to change the name of this thread a bit. I guess when we FINALLY have official pricing and release date, we'll make a "Golf R Mark VI Specifications and Prices" thread like we have for the GTI and then close this beast off!

It's highly likely they won't be able to meet demand on the GTI and R anyway (on top of lengthy and protacted delivery times which will deter potential interest/orders/sales). ..Why compound this situation by not giving people the choice of the Scirocco R even if they prefer itWhy is VWA concerned about Scirocco R purchases potentially detracting from Golf GTI and R sales - ultimately isn't their goal to sell VWs, irrespective of which model it is??? It seems this makes sense to New Zealand (and virtually every other market), but here the preference is to restrict supply and narrow choice.
PM if you are looking for: R32 rear sway bar; R32 suspension springs; Euro Headlight switches

Here a couple of videos showing the Golf R:
1st video is from New Zealand where the journalist can't decide if he wants a Golf R or Golf GTI. Interesting points on the DCC option:
The other video is in German and shows a Red Golf R with Privacy Glass. Can anyone on forum understand German?
Now that this thread is a speculation/information thread on the Golf R; this is what United Kingdom's CAR Magazine points out when comparing the Golf R -v- Sirocco R. Not that the Sirocco R is coming to Aus; but useful as a benchmark on whether the AWD is worth the extra weight as a trade-off:
Golf R:
More sophisticated and balanced.
Fast with fantastic body control & excels in greasy conditions with little need to back off.
Can exhibit a stiff ride; which is contrary to what the Kiwi journo is saying.
4/5.
Sirocco R (aka Golf GTI with ECU retune & Coilovers):
More wayward and characterful.
More demanding in inclement conditions, requiring more effort from the driver to keep it tidy that more challenging than upsetting.
Rear end responds better to throttle steer.
Weight has a noticeable effect on handling.
Feels faster than the Golf R; depsite not being faster (well not in wet/damp/greasy conditions).
Feel fewer bumps with DCC as standard.
5/5.
June release of the Golf R will not give me the opportunity to sample the Golf R -v- GTI, although I'm still leaning towards the GTI. The annoying rattle in the GTI may be a drawback and lower price of the Golf R without leather interior (I like the cloth in the R) & park sensors standard is a plus. The GTI is still the looker of the two and would be a more challenging drive when pressing on. The Golf R better balanced and seriously quick in all weather conditions.
Cheers
WJ

They went way to far if it were an April fools joke. Dealers on both sides of the country received emails from VWA, including order codes for the 3 door. This prompted dealers to contact some of their customers, including myself, to let them know the news. Also some customers, including myself, received emails directly from Karl Gehling.
So not much chance of it not being real
