I'm pretty sure my GTI options list came to about $11k.

I might be wrong, cant remember for sure.

yeah, retail of your options is $13,070, or $13663 after LCT/stamp duties, but considering the discount you received on your car, $11k would be about right.

The options I'd like on my R are about $11k, but after the LCT that'll obviously be 33% higher (before my negotiation of course). I don't particularly care that the options won't add much to the resale of the car, because I'm buying the car for me, not for the person I'm selling the car to

I'd love to option the R up to the point that the GTI is.. but if it means trading extra power and AWD for park assist .. then so be it.

          Yeah - I understand

Park Assist isn't even an option on the R. Initially I was like 'no fair'. But then I thought, well, seriously, if you're not talented enough to reverse park your car, you shouldn't be driving a car such as the R in the first place!

Something i saw on Golf MKV for those who have handed in their deposits already:

This guy in the United Kingdom reckons that the Golf 'R' DSG gearbox in 'Drive' mode has the R taking off in 2nd gear. 'Sport' button starts vehicle off in 1st gear?

Original post: http://www.rforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=92.0 Well... I'm just back from my first Golf R experience, and I'm grinning from ear to ear! My dealer wasn't one of those who was presented with an 'introductory volume' car, but their sister company 110 miles away was. When I spoke to...

Drive indicate that the weight of the Golf 'R': http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3790

              Man - 1521kg.
              DSG - 1541kg.

In other words - 160kg more than the GTI.

this thread is like how do you change a flat tyre thread almost lol.

i read one page and wanted to shoot myself! lol.

the landed price is approx 65-67k on road according to my sources (direct from vw). it may be here earlier then July possibly as well.. hey least i get to see the press car and have a drive of it when its here lol.

if you compare it to an S3, the s3 is a lot better value in consideration of interior and i would say almost looks. Resale better in an audi then vw unfortunately too.
                  What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

That price doesn't match what VWA have told the media. It is meant to come in just under the R32. Which from memory started around the 56k mark or something?

I know that doesn't include onroad costs or luxury car tax. But it's a pretty safe bet that once you start talking about making a deal with your dealer, the drive away price will be around the 55k mark with no options.

Also keep in mind, you can get a Mitsubishi EVO X MR for the same price you have mentioned. Why the hell would you buy a Golf R, when for the price you are saying you can get an S3, EVO X, 125i.?

It's all guess work at this stage, but I just can't see VWA pricing it that high. It's boarding on R36 pricing...

thats how they can get away with it!

                      • I would strongly disagree that the S3 interior is 'better' than the MK6 Golf interior. There were arguments for an against between the S3 and the MKV, but the MK6 is definitely an improvement over the S3. The A3/S3 is really due for a refresh now that the MK6 is out.

Also - do you have a source which shows that Audi have a better resale than VW when it comes to the A3 vs the Golf? The impression that I've had from reading local Audi and VW sites, and redbook/carsales etc is that the A3/S3's resale is not as good as the Golf as they're essentially a similar car yet the Audi has a decent premium with the new prices. The fact Audi has such a huge margin in the A3/S3 prices helps and hurts at the same time. People can get $15k+ discounts on a new S3 so other people who didn't get much discount have no chance of getting a good recoup on their cars come sale time.

you have to much time lol

never meant as "better" but the golf 5 interior was pretty average imo. the mkv gti did absolutely nothing for me when i was considering one hence the decision to not own one! audi's always overpriced, but it is a premium car as they call it. mk6 is a facelifted mk5 in and out.. but audi is due for a refresher yes.

                          -note, way to much.

this will be an endless thread. i have no sources, apart from dealing directly with 2 dealers daily...

But I've heard it will be similar price to R32.

                              • Exactly. VW have said 'cheaper', but even if it comes in the same price as an R32, that means $61,700 on the road for the 3 door manual and go up from there. That's obviously before negotiation. But there is no way in hell VW are going to make the car $3,300 to $5,300 more expensive as fuzion was suggesting. That'd be a big damper on sales!
