Golf R 3 door/5 door speculation/information thread

Excellent news about the 3 door coming. VWA just got themselves a new customer to the marque

Now to wait for the pricing...

Would I be right in assuming that there would be no point in pre-ordering now if you are going to tick several options? I mean, either way it has to be built and shipped to order, so may as well wait until local dealer availability for a test drive first?

no worries at all. Dealer forward order is 3-6 month factory order. Scirocco will not be coming to aus becuase it will destroy market for Golf GTi and Golf R. Polo Gti will be coming out in 5 door DSG and Manual only (that the info we have at the moment). Golf 7 maybe another 3-5 years

Yeah, the official Volkswagen press release on the new Polo GTI also stated DSG is standard and made no mention of a manual option being available.

It's highly likely they won't be able to meet demand on the GTI and R anyway (on top of lengthy and protacted delivery times which will deter potential interest/orders/sales). ..Why compound this situation by not giving people the choice of the Scirocco R even if they prefer it Why is VWA concerned about Scirocco R purchases potentially detracting from Golf GTI and R sales - ultimately isn't their goal to sell VWs, irrespective of which model it is??? It seems this makes sense to New Zealand (and virtually every other market), but here the preference is to restrict supply and narrow choice.

Its all about the cashola... Perhaps the money it would cost to bring in another model car is too prohibitive compared to the profits VW feel it would bring?

Seriously - they do their market research and make their decisions based on all sorts of information. VW evidently feel that the best way to make money in Aus is to limit customers to the GTI and R...

I certainly don't understand the cost implications of bringing in another model car. I also don't understand what impact this would have on the market and sales. Its possible that the experience in other countries has taught them that they'll make more money overall without it.

Anyhow - All I'm trying to say is that there's thousands of factors that impact these types of decisions and VW would have to weigh them all up. After all of that it comes down to how much money is to be made. That's how a business is run.

For all those people questioning why they aren't bringing the Scirocco out here, isn't the answer obvious?
Because it's ONLY available in 3 door and not in 5 door as well. I mean come on guys, I'm VERY STRONGLY in the 3 door came, but I'm not silly, and I'm not blind. Look around. Australian's just do not like 3 door cars.
Now sure, when the car is available in both, give us the option for the 3 door - because you've already done all the crash testing, fuel testing, compliance testing, marketting, inventory, etc etc etc which is a VERY EXPENSIVE process, for the 5 door model - it doesn't change because of it being 3 doors only.

But yeah - I can appreciate given how anti-3 door Australia is why they're not bringing the Scirocco.

Does it suck? Yes. But that's just the reality of the Australian market unfortunately.

I think they're right though. I've said it before but I think a very high % of R32 owners for example aren't enthusiasts at all. They're people who wanted a golf and have those "we need the top of the range" model mentality. I'd say that goes for the GTI too.

I agree with you in regards to R32 owners. I think the Golf R is shaping up to be a very different scenario given it has a turbo strapped to it now.

And yet the 3 door that was on the docks here has sailed off once again I think to NZ. All very strange on April 1st if you ask me
