No 3-door counts me out as well. I'll be heading back towards the EVO X if that is the case.

Woot!
So i'll be writing to VWA shortly to congratulate them on the wise choice of dropping 3-door R's.
Stuff fuel economy, resale value and cloth/leather arguments. Just give me a 5 door DSG, AWD hatch that i can modify to my hearts content and drive ffs!
....sigh... gonna be a long 6 months if all I hear is arguments about fuel economy. WJ just might convince me to go and by a V8 HSV.

Give me a white manual R with cloth or whatever comes standard for $50k plus on roads!
Simply don't understand all this discussion about leather, 3 or 5 doors, satnav and other bells and whistles. You want confort and fancy looks, get the GTI and option it to your wallet's content. The R is for driving hard enough not to have time to think about much else. The only worthy option is the adaptive suspension, maybe. Oh wait, there's one more that I couldn't find in any VW catalog but I'd happily part with hard earned cash to get it. Can't remember the exact website address right now, something like goapr...

Yeah it would be cool to rock up at the dealers and buy one of the 4 that they'll get allocated. wouldn't have any extras but options are pissing money away anyway and can add most later but i'm tending to think why bother. just get the car you want. All this is just people thinking about it too much and waiting... waiting... waiting, but most euro owners are quite fussy.Originally posted by sabloke View PostGive me a white manual R with cloth or whatever comes standard for $50k plus on roads!

But as others haven't mentioned it's not going to be a raw racing machine like it should have been.Last edited by G-rig; 24-02-2010, 09:03 PM.

If only that were true id be lining up myself. It seems that its going to be a bit too unfocosed compared to other offerings on the market.Originally posted by sabloke View PostThe R is for driving hard enough not to have time to think about much else.

Well, I don't hope it to be a track day car or anything like that. Sure is not as focused as the Japanese stable, the French odd arsed one or even the blue collar RS. But you see, I love R's understaded European class than none of the ones mention above has. I would feel smug driving it, knowing that I've got enough grunt on tap to put most muscle cars to shame. Not that I'd race anyone on the street but the feeling, oh that feeling....

Why are you guys so concerned about fuel consumption? R will use more for the simple fact that mover four wheels. What's next, concerns about noisy pops and crackles when pushing the engine a bit? Shush...
Want to save fuel? My advise, buy a Diesel.
