Great vid Golfitup; that (along with your install video) will be really helpful for people wanting to do the LED install!

        • Where did you source your Vancouvers from Browny? Last time I checked they weren't available in Aus

They are now the 18" option for the GTD and I was lucky enough to be able to swap my Detroits over for them because they (dealer) had a GTD in the showroom.... I love them and think it is stupid that VW dont over more options for the GTI, because I reckon more people dislike the Detroits than people like them...

+2, I don't hear many complaints and the style is iconic making the GTI easily recognisable.

                  • People.....

Now to say they are iconic is a bit of a stretch ins't it?? If I remember correctly, and please correct me if I am wrong, but didn't this style of wheel only become standard on the GTI when the MKV was released? To me, 4 years is not iconic...

It is all personal opinion lads and if I am being honest, the Detroits do look really good on the darker models. ie. Carbon Steel and black.... They also look alright on the white...but for some reason I think they look rubbish on the silver, which is the colour I wanted...

Have a look at a few other sites and there is one dedicated to non detroits pics...

As I said, each to their own and there is no wrong or right, except to say they are iconic

                    Cheers

                    • Wheel styling is a pretty personal/subjective thing but interesting that VW didn't change the style when the MK6 came out as most other manufacturers do.

I personally think they look great for factory wheels and am less inclined to go to aftermarket wheels like I did in the past.

                      • Personally I prefer the Golf R's 18s over the Detroits, but that's just my personal preference.

                        • The golf R wheels could be a lot better, the 18" version looks too small on the R for some reason so you'd have to get the 19" imo.

                          • I have found a set of the LHD LEDs and they are more affordable than the RHD ones. Does anyone know if it'll fit on our RHD cars? For all I know the only difference is the side of the reverse light and fog light is different.

                            • They'll probably fit, but will be illegal on your vehicle. It won't comply to ADRs etc

                              • But in essence, only the side of the fog light and reverse light is different so I don't really see any problems with them. I'm not sure on the coding of the lights though.
