Well, if I had a GTI, I'd probably put them on too because they look awesome... and there's enough other stuff to differentiate the R from the pack so to speak.

there are some that goes one step further (swapping the GTI rear bumper and exhaust for R bumper & exhaust). an expensive exercise, probably better off buying a real ROriginally posted by Pepe View PostWell, if I had a GTI, I'd probably put them on too because they look awesome... and there's enough other stuff to differentiate the R from the pack so to speak.

DEFINITELY better off just buying an R. As soon as you go swapping body kits and exhaust in addition to the LED, you're probably talking around $6,000+ anyway. There's only $9,500 diff between the GTI and the R, and that's before you add any of the options to the GTI which are included as standard in the R!Originally posted by rs73 View Postthere are some that goes one step further (swapping the GTI rear bumper and exhaust for R bumper & exhaust). an expensive exercise, probably better off buying a real R

Yeah, putting the full R bodykit on something other than an R, well, would be the equivalent of something like this AMG wannabe kit:

I can understand why some see this (fitting the R tails) as an exercise in R imitation... and let's be honest, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery - the R looks great!Originally posted by rs73 View Postthere are some that goes one step further (swapping the GTI rear bumper and exhaust for R bumper & exhaust). an expensive exercise, probably better off buying a real R I, on the other hand, have no intention of making my GTI look like (or be mistaken for) an R: the GTI looks great as is, with a look all its own that is - in my opinion - every bit as stylish as the R. I fitted the tails because I love the look of them as a key styling element, and because they've allowed me a GTI that's just a little bit different. My car's lost a little of its GTI identity (especially with the rim changes also), but it's no wannabe R.2008 MkV Volkswagen Golf R32 DSG

This may not be the right thread for it but since we are on the 'looks' and stock bodykit topic, I'll add that I actually prefer the GTi front and rear bumper, side skirts and twin exhausts being apart (and tartan seats paying tribute to the earlier MKs). I (personally) feel that the design of the GTi sits perfectly (proportionate) with the body contours, form, shape and size. Reading else where online, some pointed out that the GTi's continuous horizontal lines on the front actually makes the car look wider and subsequently look 'lower' which I agree.Originally posted by rs73 View Postthere are some that goes one step further (swapping the GTI rear bumper and exhaust for R bumper & exhaust). an expensive exercise, probably better off buying a real R
The Rs, in my opinion looks 'taller' and it's got those to-die-for racing recaros and black bi-xenons added to it's long line of 'other' features (tech, mech and performance aside). Mr Fox....yep, no VAGCOM tool required. Just plug the code box into the same connector you would use with a VAGCOM, leave it for 30 seconds, remove, then start the car. No more warning light or flashing fogs lamp on startup.Originally posted by mr fox View Postsorry solistics, but did the code box remove the warning light without the use of the VAGCOM tool?...if so what did the code box set you back, what was involved in the installation and did it fix the flashing fogs you earlier stated in this thread...

The code box was purchased from TM Tuning for about $50 and $20 in shipping.

Yeah there is no point... unless you can get the parts cheap and fit them yourself. Also if you already have a GTI you'd have to take into account the loss selling it to get an R so may not work out that cheap either way. Best thing is to enjoy the GTI how it is and just do performance mods (like retune, TBE etc) and not worry about body kits and LED's or you'd waste the difference in money between the GTI & R.Originally posted by coreying View PostDEFINITELY better off just buying an R. A guy at work asked was the car lowered & what size wheels they were, while looking at the car from the building. In terms of a stock car the GTI looks pretty good with the 18" and doesn't need to be lowered for aesthetics like with the MK5 and 17" wheels. Hense i'm fairly happy with the way it is and can't be bothered spending on aftermarket suspension/wheels this time around.Originally posted by Converted View PostThis may not be the right thread for it but since we are on the 'looks' and stock bodykit topic, I'll add that I actually prefer the GTi front and rear bumper, side skirts and twin exhausts being apart (and tartan seats paying tribute to the earlier MKs). I also like the look of the R even if it's a bit more generic and plainer interior. Didn't mind getting the tartan cloth as it's fairly iconic as well.Last edited by G-rig; 26-09-2010, 08:08 PM.

My awesome LED tails arrived 3 weeks ago and were fitted next day.
The installation was so easy because of the excellent posts on this forum.

Took photos of fitting in stages and had hoped to post some on here, but dont want
to use photo bucket and havent had time to sort out how to go about it yet.

Wanted to acknowledge a couple of you guys on here though.
Hope its okay to do so here?

Ozram/AdamD; I "wouldnt" have done this without you paving the way first, and I "couldnt" have done it without
your help (literally) You are both legends!
 Thanks heaps guys, you rock!
I am getting the recoding done this Friday, so if anyone in Melbourne needs someone to do this, feel free to PM me and I will
pass Peters details on,thanks to those who offered to help with this also

I still look at and admire my LED's every time I walk past my car
IMO they just look so much better than the stock standard and money well spent.
Also, really love the darker tint as opposed to the untinted look.
I dont think these change the car in ayway to try and imitate the "R"
 I really like my GTI (even more so now) heheLast edited by GTI mk6; 28-09-2010, 12:16 PM.Current ride..MY10 Golf MkVI GTI | 5 dr | CW | < DSG >| Leather| Dynaudio | Sensors | Tint | R tails

That's great news GTI mk6. I know exactly what you mean about looking at the LEDS after you have fitted them

I understand about your hesitancy in using photobucket but .....(and I've waited ages to use this emoticon)

Ozram / AdamD/ G-rig: You are so right guys, couldnt agree more and hey, the fact that I have given you a reason
(at last) Ozram, to use your emoticons......so initially worth it then hehe. Its a "work in progress" and "it wont happen
 overnight, but it will happen"
 Hows that?

Just LOVE these LED's, even if I have said it before....oh did I mention how I keep admiring the LED's? Ha ha
Have been AWOL for a while here, but just wanted to report back they have now been recoded, along with activating
static cornering (not activated with indicators though as my preference)and last but not least staging needles.....
