I really am against a set of replicas such as CT autoparts ($400~), but the price difference is too big.

Also, if anyone does have replicas, could you please advise me on the quality and reliability of the set.

    Thanks!

I had a look at some replicas on the internet, there is a good brand out there but it is hit and miss in regards, to installation, they can have a huge gap under the light and I dont really want to risk it and I think Genuine is the best way to go if you are pretty anal about the little things.
Volkswagen Has both VW and Hella LED tails. Hella is the lights OEM for VAG, so they're actually the exact same thing, just they have a Hella part number, and are a bit cheaper. AFAIK they only carry the cherry red Hella tails, where as you can get cherry and dark cherry vw parts.

Unfortunately with the dollar at where it is at the moment (and that it will stay around the same, if not drop a bit, since it's been overvalued for a while, see the RBA's minutes for the past 2 years lol), that's just how much you'll pay, at the moment.

Exactly. I (like many in this thread) bought my tails from a German VW dealer, and the price back then - which is pretty much as keen as anyone in this thread has achieved - was still around $850 with today's exchange rate.

          • Just installed these the other day. Depo LED's. Got them for $350 delivered! The fit is pretty much spot on. I did have to fiddle around quite a bit to get them to sit right. The only minor issue I had (and it is very minor) was a very small dag on the corner which I just filed off. No coding etc required so an easy plug a play install.

Ignore that the left side isn't illuminated.... It's just the camera not able to pick it up for some reason?
But all in all I'm really happy.

                • Has anyone had their (OEM) LED tail lights get moisture/condensation on the inside? What is the best way of fixing it? I've noticed that my drivers side outer tail has been getting condensation on the inside for the last few months, and now all of a sudden the bottom 4 LEDs have stopped working Not sure if it will be possible to fix it or not?

You should be happy, you have a Datsun 1600 in the garage.

                      • Any reviews or comments on the CT autoparts LED tails? The low price has me tempted but the old saying you get what you pay for is stopping me.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

                        • So I have been having issues with one of my rear LED tail lights. Been getting condensation on the inside and four of the LEDs had stopped working. Hopped into my car today and got a warning light that my tail light was out. The entire thing had stopped working. Pulled it off and it was *FULL* of water. No wonder it had stopped working. Guess the old joke about indicator fluid is true haha. Emptied it out and now have it sitting in a bucket of rice to dry it out completely. Hopefully it's recoverable, otherwise going to have to get a new one.

AFAIK they're Depo or other rep lights? They'd be fine, but obviously not genuine vw/hella quality. From memory the LEDs aren't as bright, and fitment might be a bit of an issue.

                          • Correct. Those CT Autosport ones are the Depo units. Jump on the eBay link I posted earlier. Can get them a little cheaper. Had mine now for 3 months with no problems.

                            • I just picked up a set of the CT Autoparts LEDs $300 delivered cheap cheap. Units look good so far, no issues or dramas. Fitted fine and all working great so far.

                              • Hey guys this might have been covered already.
I picked up a pair of LED R tail^^^ (Depo I think). It has the normal 1 reverse taillight but the other (normally the red fog light) is clear. Can I wore this one up too so as to have 2 reverse lights?? Or will this overload or cause globe errors??
is this hard to do? How??

                                thanks all!!
