  • Footwell Lighting

    Hey Guys,

In your cars, can you set the footwell lighting to be on while driving?

I've been reading this thread about bulbs for interior lighting http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showth...?t=2349&page=4

The guys in the US and UK seem to be able to have the footwell lights on while driving, whereas mine only come on when the door is opened. I've got footwell lighting enabled. If I disable it, they don't come on when I open the door.

Why would you would want to have your footwell illuminated when all it will achieve is the reduction of your distance vision at night and cause distraction

I was thinking about getting some red LEDs and have them on a low setting to match the overhead ambience lighting.

If they caused reduced vision and distraction I wouldn't use them. I just wanted to see what it would be like and then noticed that I couldn't do it anyway and wondered if it was all the Aussie cars that were different.

My footwell lighting is on whilst driving, slightly annoying. The menu only allows for activation/deactivation, and adjusting the brightness. Deactivation seems to turn it off permanently, I only want it on when you get in. Is it in some way also connected with the Convenience menu?

On the GTI they are on while the lights are on, you can adjust the brightness via the MFD, i find them non intrusive whilst driving. I guess it's just one of those things that's a user defined setting, I will say for me in the GTI I like the 'mood lighting' dunno how u non GTI guys go!

You can disable/enable it only via VAGCOM. In the module 09 (central electronics), there is an option to set "turn on footwell lighting with terminal 58d". If checked, it will be on whenever the car is running with headlamps on, if unchecked it will only be on whenever doors are opened. Hope that helps.

I can confirm this - red bulbs are much nicer and feels as part of the ambent lighting.
Installed on mine just the other day and looks great. I only used normal red bulbs (NOT LED) as I didn't want this light to be ovepowering (even at the lowest setting), plus most LED are directional so the light will feel as a torch.

That's good to know. Guess I'll have to get a hold of vagcom if I want to enable mine permanantly.

I can adjust the brightness of mine and turn them off/on via MFD, but turning them on only means that they come on when the doors are opened

Personally, I prefer mine OFF, which is what I've got, so I'm very satisfied

Just be careful not to light up (in red) windows of Your GTI ... Brothels in Germany have red lighted windows.
