Did you do this with VCDS or with the MFD?

Through the MFD. If you select footwell lights to "OFF" they are off when the headlights are on, but work with the interior lights when a door is opened.

Well I worked out what the acrid burning smell was.

it was from the footwell Lights.

I replaced the standard globe with an LED from Boldsport 2 weeks ago. Only the 1 as I wanted to see how hard it was, and I was waiting for some red-ones to arrive from Ebay.

There was a nasty acrid burny smell in the car for a few days, but it died down a little - couldn't work out where.

Red ebay ones arrived, so went to put them in and found this:

(the brown is vertically UP from the light - i.e its residue from burning / gas)
        2 weeks,..

Perhaps summer and LEDS (and decently priced ones too!) - aren't the best idea.

p.s It was STILL WORKING when I took it out.

          Interior Lights Issue

I have a tricky one here so lets see how we do. I noticed a few weeks ago when i started to unlock my Golf GTI 6 2010 that the leaving home lights did not turn on, the footwell lights did not come on, the interier lights would come on for a few seconds then go out then come staight back on again and the car would beep at me until i turned the ignition. The beep is very similar to the need fuel beep but much softer and it seems to come through the speakers.

Take note this could be important, these issues only happen when i lock the car by pushing the button once (dead lock), and leave it for a while. If i lock the car by pushing the key fob twice (no dead locks) the car functions normally, as in everything turns on that should turn on and there is no stange beep. Please note that this beep is different from all other beeps that the car makes.

          Good luck.

I should mention that i have red led lights in the footwell but it seems strange that it doesnt happen all the time, it only happens when i lock it a certain way and it has to be left for a while.

Sounds like a strange one to me. If you can reliably reproduce it, I'd be inclined to take it to your dealer to run a fault scan.

Agree with Adam but perhaps return the lights (LEDs) to normal first so there's no dispute with the dealer. I know I know but .... sometimes it makes life easier.

Cars of today do very weird things when the battery start going flat. Get your battery checked asap. I've had cars come up with weird faults when the battery was going flat.

The beeps (usually random) are a the Battery Load management controller telling the Central Electrics Controller - 09 to shed electrical loads to preserve the battery charge. Intended for cars when in transportation to warn a battery is low.

The tones start at about 11.75 volts in the 09 controller, I use the Engine Controller measuring blocks to read the "system" voltage which is about 0.50 volts lower than across the battery terminals.

In VCDS it will first appear here at the top of an Auto-Scan.....
This is the first hint of a low voltage, usually just before the tones start.

Then as the volts get lower, fault code 00907 appears (self clearing if the engine is run).

                    OFF
Bottom line is the battery voltage is low after what you have been doing.

Engine just needs to be run as normal to re-charge the battery. As said the fault code will self clear if its in the 09 controller fault memory.

Thank you mate, this all makes sense now. I have replaced the led bulbs in the footwell and the trunk with stock ones and the problem has gone. The trunk led light was causing some crazy electric issues. When i would lock the car the rear window on off button on the drivers door would either flash (dead locks on) or stay on (dead locks off) This would have been causing drain on the battery thus when i come to my car in a morning the leaving home lights would not work and the low voltage tone from the speakers nwould sound.

Next question is can the car be reprogramed so that these trunk led lights dont cause any issues? They are brighter and better than stock.

                        Footwell Lights

                        Hey Guys,
Looking at getting some red leds for the foot well lights in my GTI. Wondering if anyone can tell me what size the standard bulbs are? Or any possibly leds that will fit?

                        Cheers

T10. Any LEDs will do. Don't need to error free ones. Although stay away from the tall ones, as they won't fit in the holder.
