My car is a Candy White model. I chose the black font over white background, plain look. Simple, neat and matching.

Thanks for that coreying. On the basis of that info I re-read the bits of this thread about replacing the factory-fitted bracket and have now ordered the full front and rear Lakin kit. Philip kindly gave me the VWWatercooled discount, so I'm set. Now my car just has to arrive.Originally posted by coreying View PostFor what its worth, the plate covers which are provided by Lakin Plates are in fact approved for use in QLD, although the letter is a bit old.
In addition, the plate covers have a neoprene seal which presses around the raised rim of the number plates. So installed correctly in conjunction with the Lakin brackets, there should not be any possibility of moisture getting in. As for heat... I wouldn't imagine that would be an issue if there is no moisture. Numberplates in direct sunlight get pretty damn warm anyway. Behind a UV treated plastic, they're unlikely to get as hot - although sure, they'd take longer to cool after they've been heated up by direct sunlight.

I am looking at another solution ..... Having the identical WA prestige plates made in the UK ... & using 3m double-sided. I envisage they will be same as 'normal' UK plates i.e similar in material & weight & will mean I can obtain a clean look without using brackest & covers. I'm going to get some made & see what they look like! If they do the job I'll attach & put the 'legit' plates in a drawer until plod tells me otherwise!2015 MY15 Polo GTI 6C - Blue - DSG. SOLD

That can't be legal, surely? Here in SA all plates must be supplied by the department of transport, and I would expect there'd be big fines for using non-legal plates (perhaps akin to having no plates at all). I'd suggest a quick call to your motor registry to check.Originally posted by DAL344 View PostI am looking at another solution ..... Yeah... I was thinking that too AdamD.
Over in the Eastern States (NSW and VIC) "Fraudulently altering a number plate - $1,000 fine or imprisonment for 2 months", and if the plate is determined to be "incompatible" with fixed and police speed cameras, you could also be up for "Sell, use or possess an anti-speed measuring device - $2, 000 fine.".
I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't be risking $3,000 and 2 months in prison just to make my number plates look better...

It wont look any different just different material .... Judging by the fines thought I might reconsider .... I'll see if I can find out how much jail time I'll do for having 'dodgy' plates & the Delonix PRS3/2STi system fitted ;o)Originally posted by Pepe View PostYeah, gotta say, I think the plod would overlook most other things (tint, noise, etc) but a custom plate would probably get you pulled over in a heartbeat.

No one has put a full-sized Euro plate on the front using a Lakin plate holder yet.Originally posted by mr fox View Postso has anyone used the LAKIN plates for full size euro plates yet?.. pref. front and rear and the plastic OEM plate removed?... i would seriously love some pictures pls...
This post has the full size NSW white Euro on the stock holder. It has had the plate 'molded' to the curve of the stock holder by securing the plate to the holder with screws in each top corner. The curve is too great to put a cover on it though. I've seen a few people leave the plate "flat" and try and put a cover on, but it looks ridiculous.
AdamD has a great post with some good pictures of the Lakin slimline front plate holder, and moonblade87 has a post with the NSW black slim front Euro and full sized rear Euro with Lakin holders.
Lakin can make the front bracket in a size to suit the full sized Euro, but thus far there have been no pictures of it that I've seen.... I'd love to see it though, I think it'd look so much better than the stock holder!
In QLD you can get the Euro plates for $595 (eek!) and they're available in 520x112mm front and rear, 520x112mm rear and 372x100 front, and even 372x100mm front and rear.Originally posted by lawsy82 View PostThis thread has me worried- I live in QLD and I'm looking at euro plates as we speak on the web, so what size euro plates do I order for my golf R??
The QLD slim size is actually larger than the slim size for other states - 372x84mm. Thankfully Lakin can make brackets to suit any size!
On the GTI, if you order a "slim" front plate, then you'll have a single screw visible each side of the plate (as AdamD and moonblade87's pictures). On the R you would have two screws visible each side (or maybe it could still be a single screw - ask Lakin plates when you call to order!).
The full size Euro does not have the issue of any visible screws, however, it's not available in all states and is not available in some styles in some states.

I have ordered the Lakin kit for full-sized euro QLD plates front and rear, replacing the OEM plastic front mount and with covers front and rear. I have the plates, the Lakin kit is in the post and my car is in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, due Brisbane 15 Oct, so I'll have it end-Oct. I'm getting a panel beater to fit the plates so the job is done properly (drilling holes in rear, mainly). The car is a CW GTD and I have the silver-ended euro style plates, which have a black background with white letters. If you can hold your breath, I'll post pics in about 6 weeks.Golf MY11 GTD | Candy White | 5-door | DSG | ACC | RNS-510 | Park Assist

Right, so im looking at the QLD classic Euro plate, which is 520x112. What is this larkin plate holder all about??
If I order the Euro 520x112 will this not fit nicely onto my Golf R?? Im buying the car in NSW so I will need to fit the plates my self, is this not an easy job or something??2014 Golf R on order/ white/DSG fully optioned

If you are getting the standard size Euro then there is no need to get a Lakin plate holder, especially on the front as the plate will cover the whole plate holder. It's really only beneficial if you are going baby/slim size euro or if you are wanting to put on a plate cover on due to the slight curvature of the standard holder.Originally posted by lawsy82 View PostRight, so im looking at the QLD classic Euro plate, which is 520x112. yes Prodigy true, however the OEM plastic adapter seems too bulky for my liking and I would personally prefer to remove it and replace it with the Lakin plate holder....(slimmer and neater)
for those that dont mind the OEM adapter with standard euro plates, ok.. but i recently saw a gti with the standard euro plates front and rear it looked ok but heavy with such a large plate..MY11/MkVI/GTI/DSG/XENONS/ACC/LEATHER/SILVER/DETROITS/BLUETOOTH/EURO PLATES......
