Basically it came down to if I had mentioned a problem or issue with something on the vehicle during one of the services under the VW warranty, it would be classed as a pre-existing condition and so not covered bu the warranty extension policy from any of those insurers offering one.

The policy is underwritten by Alliance.
I had a few hiccups with the GTI since purchase - e.g. faulty waterpump etc. The extended warranty is well worth it as I didn't have to pay a thing.
Another good thing is that you DO NOT have to have your car serviced through a VW dealer to keep the warranty. Just use an independent and have your vehicle serviced as per the warranty guidelines and save of servicing costs!Sold - CW Mk6 MY12 GTI 5 Door DSG, Sunroof, Leather, RNS510, MDI, Tints, Lakin plate holders, BT & RVC, projected 'GTI' door lights

I've been in touch with Wangara VW, John Hughes VW & VW Melville requesting a quote to extend the warranty for a further three years. So far, only Wangara VW have responded:
Thank you for talking to me this afternoon.
The manufacturer's warranty can be extended for 2 years. During the two years you will also benefit from the 24 hour roadside assistance.
The price is $2950 inc GST.
I was told the three year warranty extension is only available at the time of purchase. But this seems contrary to information elsewhere in this thread. Is anyone able to shed any light on this, or suggest another point of contact?MY10 Golf MkVI 103TDI United Grey

That's a heck of a lot more than the $1900 I was quoted for 2 years genuine + roadside assist.

It is NOT the same as the manufacturers warranty.
I got 3 years on the Passat for $1750 with Swann and 3 years on the Polo for $1300 roughly with Allianz
Both were taken out when the Polo is nearly 2 years old and the Passat 18months.
Havent got roadside assist but could have had it for a bit extra but it didnt cover some of the things like flat batteries or something
VW was a lot more expensive and only 2 years as you say.
Reason they cream it off the top thats what.

Hi - I'm currently shopping around for extended warranty for my 2 year old Golf R (requesting price for both VW and Allianz warranties).
My first point of contact - Gold Coast VW (James Frizelles) told me that those 2 warranties are ONLY available at the time of sale - which appears to contradict most of what's being discussed on the forum here. Anyhow, this is only my first request - will try a few more dealerships, see if I get any different response from others.MY11 Golf R 3dr, DSG, Sunroof, United Grey

Strange, most dealers are only too happy to take your money.
I rang up with only a week to go and got a good rate, they just had to create the policy before the end of warranty, and then I had 14 days to pay or cancel it, so it went a bit beyond when my warranty ran out).

I was under the impression that you can't go direct to Allianz to extend the warranty insurance but you seem to have done just that for your Polo. I'm pleased to note, however, that we're not tied in to VW dealerships.
And for the record, to date Melville VW and John Hughes VW haven't responded to my request.MY10 Golf MkVI 103TDI United Grey

No you cant go direct to Allianz for extended warranty insurance. I did mine through a broker called Ineedwarrantynow.
You can only do it through a broker or a dealer. I tried direct and they wouldnt do it.
Dont know about Swann as I did them both at once.
"The manufacturer's warranty can be extended for 2 years. During the two years you will also benefit from the 24 hour roadside assistance."
Means you get an EXTRA two years warranty" insurance" and also get roadside assistance in that term as well. Which incidentally increases the premium in most cases.
The extended Warranty is INSURANCE and not identical to the original warranty. Is the same if you get it off a dealer or a broker.
It is NOT an extension of Factory warranty as such. Be aware read the PDS about it.Last edited by Guest001; 02-01-2013, 06:13 PM.2021 Kamiq LE 110 , Moon White, BV cameras F & B

Hi,
Just wanted to provide some feedback to this thread.
I ended up getting quotes from 3 dealerships for the 2 year VW New Vehicle Extended Warranty (underwritten by Allianz).
After the poor experience with Gold Coast VW (James Frizelle's) [see earlier post], I decided to try the dealership where I bought my car - VW Barloworld Moorabbin - the contact there was Michael who started out by quoting RRP on the VW New Car Extended Warranty - when I told him I'd bought the car through them, he gave me a revised figure, however, it was still the highest of the 3 I received - kind of disappointing - such is life.
Next, on the basis of other comments on the forum, I approached Kathy Wood from Kloster VW - Kathy was exceptionally helpful, went through a number of options, VW New Car Extended Warranty, 3 year/75000km with Allianz and a time-based 2 year/up to 100000km warranty which I believe was also with Allianz. Kathy was very helpful - great customer service. Kathy's contact details are in an earlier post in this thread.
Finally, I reached out to Burwin VW - for no particular reason - just a "random pick" ! Eric Sin contacted me and again, brilliant customer service. By this time, I had decided to go with the VW New Car Extended Warranty and Eric came back with the most competitive price. Eric's contact details - Eric Sin, Business Manager, Burwin Volkswagen - 03 9724 8230 - finance@burwinvw.com.au
One other thing - I chose not to play one quote off against another - just approached each dealer and went with the best price - which in this case was Burwin.
I'm very happy with the price I got (from both Kloster and Burwin) - and would recommend contacting both of these dealers to any other forum members. It pays to shop around !
Hope this helps others.
Cheers,
MarkMY11 Golf R 3dr, DSG, Sunroof, United Grey
