Resale value - DSG or Manual??

Well I could never put my foot down quickly (and I don't mean to the floor) in the GTI without some wheel spin. It was frustrating. Happened on dry surfaces with new tyres as well.

I can put my foot down in the dry in the low gears without wheel spin. Buy better tyres and you'll see a massive difference.

Personally, if I weren't driving the car in traffic to work every day, i'd have gone manual. Resale value or not.

As I am stuck in Sydney's traffic, the DSG was the ONLY real option. It's fun to boot too!

DSG is faster 0-100.

Only if you measure it from when the wheels start turning .... measure against a set of lights to indicate go, the manual is quicker due to that split second of initial lag in the DSG. Look at any roadtest of a DSG GTI and see the comments on that initial hesitation.

VW famously took DSG and manual GTIs to a drag strip to show how good the DSG was and the manuals (to the embarrasment of VW) beat the DSGs every single time .....

Hence the reason why the MK6 GTIs now claim the same 0-100 time.

DSG is quicker in the hands of an average driver, manual is quicker in the hands of a good & experienced driver.

I also just bought a manual GTI mk6 instead of the DSG. Its been a 10 year break from driving a manual and 90% of my driving is Sydney, inner city peak hour traffic.

I fully understand how simple it is, to go auto over manual in peak hour, but the driving experience is always less involving and less satisfying.

I have owned modified auto V8s and so-called sports-shift autos, even when driving them manually it was never quite as satisfying to drive.

Salesmen have always said the same thing an auto is better in traffic, easier to sell etc. This time I didn't listen and am very pleased with the manual box, even when sitting in traffic.

The clutch is fairly light so isn't that big a deal but depends if you bought the car to drive in traffic or not.

I don't recall any roadtests that mention any delay. The DSG is a faster gearbox unless you're claiming that you can change gears in 8ms and preselect the next gear?

Reference? Look at the DSG vs manual videos on youtube, the dsg always trumps the manual.

I don't know how you come to that conclusion. Clearly only a manual fanboi would preach something that is so incorrect. High end sports cars nearly all have a DSG as an option and some don't even have a manual option any more.

Why would the figures be quoted the same now in the AU specs?

0.3s has never been hear nor there IMO, depends what you like the feel of. Unless you're doing timed laps or traffic light grand prix then doing think the difference is really noticable.
