  • Still have to rotate the switch though, if there was a removable adaptor I'd be slightly more interested.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

          • Farewell VW Watercooled

With heavy heart I say goodbye to you all. With my Golf out of warranty and the DSG starting to shudder again (clutch packs replaced only 7,000 km ago) I decided for peace of mind to sell.

Trying to find a replacement that uses a conventional auto was tricky as most of the decent hatches use some sort of dual clutch transmission (Focus also renowned for clutch issues).

The BMW 118i appealed, but by the time you spec it up it's too expensive. So I settled on a Hyundai i30 CRDi. Certainly not as much fun to drive as the Golf, but the build quality and NVH is definitely on par. And the 5 year warranty swung it.

Will be interested to see if Golf 7 resolves the issues - you might see me back one day

Hope to see you back in a VAG car soon and back on here enjoying it! The Hyundai will bore you to death. You watch. Take care!

              • Shame that yet another 118TSI with DSG has claimed another customer.

Better luck with the new car. The new i30's are a good looking car.

Interested to hear what grabbed your attention in the i30 over the Cruze SRI-V (1.4T) or Mazda Sp25?

I'd guess given the issues resulted in the move to something more sedate, the 5 year v 3 year warranties on the Holden/Mazda (correct me if I am wrong on that).

                    • Volkswagen corporate really needs to do something about fixing the 118TSI/DSG.

Sure, the model will be discontinued soon, but as far as I can tell it's their most popular car. Letting the customers down will result in bad word-of-mouth.

And yes, I have one - and I'm not happy with the way the engine failed after 39,000km, the lack of help from my dealer, and the fact that it still has problems after replacing all the pistons and otherwise "fixing" it.

Does the company really want some of its most enthusiastic supporters to turn against it?

Bear in mind that for every 1 person who complains on our forums, there will be 99 other people who have no issue at all or just believe that is how the car is meant to operate and are happy with it.

                        • For a car that's been around for 40 years and sold something like 30 million vehicles, the Golf (or any car) is bound to have the odd issue.

Small comfort for those who've been impacted though I'm sure...

                          • Wasn't the warranty on the DSG extended to 5yrs? The car therefore had 1.5yrs of warranty left on the DSG?
                            And what's with "goodbye" posts?

25% of all Golfs sold in Australia are GTIs. See link about 1/2 way down.

                              • Fact remains the 118TSI has issues (as does the polo gti) so it is a widespread problem. Can't say it is isolated to a few cars and not hundreds/thousands of others given the almost daily commemts from various ownets. Kind of like the government denying the existence of UFOs a la Roswell........
