14% off drive away?? Its possible! Fail to plan and you plan to fail.
Pretty good deal (similar to mine minus the sunroof/dynaudio but add ACC and 5dr).
You may still have to produce the Corp Letter though if it's based on that?

I just don't get it.... I'm all for getting a competitive price and I'm impressed by what you've managed to achieve but if your time is worth so little how can you afford the car in the first place?

        I acheived the following price on my purchase three months ago;

        GTI Black Mk VI
        DSG
        3 door
        Tinted window
        Leather
        Sunroof
        MDI
        17"

Drive away price I obtained was $46,000. Using Corey’s awesome calculator, this represents a 15.45% saving.

I visited all the Sydney dealers over a few months before i purchased. I walked in very casual each time as I wear a suit six days a week. As in previous posts, some dealers I did not like, some judged me (have i got the money) & others were just out right rude.

I was abused at one dealership for taking a 45 minute test drive (my first in a GTI) and this was in front of fellow customers. I gave him a serve back & walked out disgusted (This dealership is close to an airport).

I’m a GM & through my network I have referred four persons to the dealership where I purchased from – word of mouth is still the strongest form of advertising – and my words are still dirty for the dealership close to the airport as a result of my experience.

In this day & age dealerships can’t afford to be judgemental – competition is fierce.

        Cheers
Did you happen to get a hold of Inchcape Automotive Retail? They look after the Denlo Group as well as others. If you want more info I can give you the guys that set me up. Very professional and will be willing to work out a great deal with you.

        • Is the leather trim really worth it over the tartan seats?

You'll get half the people here saying leather (myself included) and the other half saying saying the cloth. Won't change the fact that it's your money and car!

            • I agree 100% with what Dave just said but the Tartan gives the car a bit more of a "unique character" and as many have said, is "a bit more grippy" when cornering. I had leather in my Mk5 GTI but went to cloth in the 6 because I like the smart look of the Tartan. IMHO, I think the leather looks "classy" but I felt that the interior needs a bit of "jazzing up" because "all total dark grey" looks a bit bland.

In fear of starting a war, the leather is also a bit cold in winter when you first get in (until the heater kicks in) and can get a bit sticky in summer. In summary, that Tartan is very unique but you are the one that has to live with it.

                  • Yeah tartan is better for GTI but I'd get leather in the R as its more of a grand tourer. Agree that cloth holds you in the seat a lot better and although leather is generally nice the VW leather isn't of the highest quality.

Time worth so little?? Most common trait/remark of an individual who has a massive case of CBF'd. FYI I spent maybe 6 hours max (spread over a few days) to save almost 7k off rrp driveway price - thats one helluva ROI if you ask me. It's called strategy my friend - only chumps pay retail for anything. If you're not willing to invest time into researching any significant purchase you are going make, then you will generally come out second best. Nuff said.

Like Dave has said, it is all personal preference. I chose Cloth because of the following:

                          - Hugs you better (I test with and without leather)
                          - Not sticky after sport or in summer
                          - Not cold in Winter
                          - Adds abit more colour to the interior, as the Golf Interior has alot of black and grey.
                          - Looks sportier then the leather (it has red in it!)
                          - and most importantly ITS TRADITION! The MK1 had tarten! dont forget that hahaha.

If it helps anyone here I got.

                          3 Door
                          Candy White
                          DSG
                          Sunroof
                          Park Assist
                          Reversing Camera
                          MDI
                          18" Detroits
                          Adaptive Chassis Control

                          $47,500 Drive Away

I have since gone and purchased Bluetooth and the RNS510 from eBay and will be having it installed over the coming weeks.

haha and then ill be looking at getting LED Brake lights fitted at the end of the year, or early next year.

and I would LOVE to get the Golf Ball Gear Knob from the GTI Adidas fitted to my car (again its tradition)

I punched your options into a copy of cory's spreadsheet with the discount I received and you saved $1,400 more than I managed (which wasn't particularly sharp as I wanted a car effectively immediately).

As you said that's a pretty good return on your time but $1,400 is also pretty much the size of a corporate discount from VWA
so... what happens when your dealer comes back and says they don't have that letter from your HR department on file and they need it to get the corporate discount from VWA?
Last edited by chorrylan; 30-10-2010, 11:30 PM. Reason: corp discount is from VWA not VAG

Problem solved. The dealer told me that apparently our company is on their corporate list - so I went and spoke to director of hr and she didn't know anything of it. I expressed concern as to the legitimacy of the price... The dealer sent me a letter template (fill in company details etc) that I gave to hr who punched it into a doc with our letterhead, signed off on it and bam! We are on the corporate list. As a byproduct we also got invited to a vw drive day... Guess they like the idea of reaching the 200 staff members on my floor with a corporate offer. God I love working in sales.
