  • Excellent, thanks for the feedback guys, just got my quote back from the dealer:

    5 door GTI manual
    Metallic paint
    Bluetooth (STD Kit)
    Free mats
    Free tank of fuel
Free hire car when getting serviced.

40,500 drive away incl Corp Discount.
This does not include any additional dealer level haggling I can possibly squeeze them for..
I might even look at DSG given the discount he's able to do..

    Does the price look reasonable?

      Hi Duke996,

Price looks very competitive, however mats come standard with the car (unless he is quoting you the GTI mats which are about $200). Free hire car is pretty standard these days as well. What I would do is try and ask for 18'inch wheels (which are $1200) - 41,000 drive away.

      Good luck

      • Free hire car is NOT AT ALL standard... so that's great.
        Matts are standard spec though.

Given a $700 allowance for the standard bluetooth, I figure the car to be ~$47,530 on the road in VIC, making that about a 14.8% discount, which is excellent!

I would be totally surprised if there is any further room for haggling

Essendon VW and Barloworld VW both have that service but you need to book them in advance (1-2 months ahead) while Werribee VW will do a pick up and delivery service at no extra cost. But good on you for getting that deal. See if you can get some Euro plates thrown in!

          • Yeah - I know that some do it, but others dont. Last time I was at my local, they had a courtesy pickup, but no cars available for the people on single day servicing etc. Members have said other dealers have neither. So was just trying to point out that this is not a standard thing, and even if the service is available, it's not always free

Yes very valid point mate, depends on the dealership. I have been a Peugeot driver and Peugeot do it. So he has done really well with his deal. BTW I asked my dealership to write in my contract that if there is a map upgrade for the sat nav they will update it with no extra charge. (so the install it to the hard drive rather than giving me a new disc)

I would still ask them anyway, no skin off their backs, it's just a software upgrade.

Thats the funny thing I didn't negotiate the hire car point. I asked whether or not fleet discount entitles me to some cheaper/discounted servicing...He said no, but we give you a hire car when its getting serviced...

Which makes sense given the car is used primarily for business use hence the corp. discount.

Apparently there isn't many 6sp manuals floating around either, DSG is far more common. So I might have to wait til the end of May anyway..

Well you are lucky, you get your car by the end of May... I ordered my car at the beginning of this month and its ETA is mid September

Thanks for that haha. I ordered mine half way through this month, and ive been given no ETA yet. Its just been hear say between (4 to 7 months).

so waiting 5 months isnt too bad I suppose. Ill post back when I get a call from the dealer regarding delivery dates.

I am looking and getting a new MKVI GTI with the following specs:

                          Carbon Steel Grey
                          Sunroof
                          Leather
                          Tint
                          Electric Driver Seat
                          MDI (maybe)

I have been quoted $49650, you think it's a good price. I cant seem to get it any lower.

What are some prices you guys have got the car for?

                          Thanks
You haven't mentioned whether it's a 3 or 5 door, or manual or DSG. I can gather it's a 5 door due to the Electric Driver Seat. I'm also going to assume that it's a DSG, because really, why would you want the manual - it's not even good in the MK6 GTI

Anyway - with the above statement in place, I calculate that as ~$55,065 on the road in VIC. So you've got about a $5415 saving, which is a 9.8% discount.

Sure, it's not the biggest discount we've seen here, but especially if you are not entitled to a corporate discount, 10% is really nothing to be upset about!

                            Yeah sorry mate:

                            5 door and DSG.

I want bluetooth but cant justify paying $900 bucks to get it dealer fitted.
For a 50k car you would think it would have bluetooth and MDI as standard!!

                            • Yeah - for $900 you could very likely get the far superior Skoda bluetooth kit and from overseas and then have a local VW specialist like Volkspower install that for you. Check out the actual VW Car Audio and Electronics for more details.

MDI is only $270, so you should definitely get that. For that low amount it's not worth the hassle of trying to do some alternate solution.

I understand you having the opinion that these should be included as standard, but there are still a lot of people that would use neither. The Golf GTI does start at only $38990 (plus onroads) and really, if they included all the neat technologies that people might use, it would be more expensive. As it is, I still think that GTI is better value than any other car out there for price/performance/quality/features.

When people talk about the "standard bluetooth" is it a built in device?
The dealer today showed me a car with bluetooth, it was mounted on the right hand side and is a stand with a touch screen. I didnt like the look.
If i want bluetooth i want it integrated with no attachments.

What i didnt like about the MDI is that it is fitted into the center console. I use that for glasses, pens, cds etc. But if i have the MDI then i cant use the center console. I could fit it to the glove box for $500 bucks but then the phone is too far away.
I have the Tom Tom Car Kit so am thinking to just use that.

Anyone in melb get a better price then what i have been quoted so i can get from there?
Also is it worth waiting for the MY2011 as it is already almost April and with the wait time the new model will prob be out?

                                Thanks
