I ordered it in Mid March.

So that is bang on a 4 month wait.... which seems to be alot less then what everyone else seems to be waiting?
Has your can been made yet? If no the ETA is just that an Estimated Time of Arrival and your car can still be pushed back (even by a few months).

Until the car has been made and you have track it's location you can't rely on any ETA as they are outside the dealers and VWA's control.

Does anyone think that if this early delivery date is true, it may have something to do with the fact that there are rumors going around that VWA dont want to sell 3 door GTI's anymore?
Why would something that isn't going to happen have any impact on your car being built?

    • By your knowledge has anything changed in the last 3 months in terms of parts used for the GTI? I am going to put down a deposit on Saturday for a car that was built in Jan. Will have it by May.
Just wanted to know whether it is better to have it built again now because parts have changed for the better or something?

      • my pending GTI was built 3rd/4th week of Jan. I'm expecting delivery within 2 weeks...

it landed in Aus on the 23rd of March.

I cant understand some of the transit times some ppl are being quoted...

        • Entice - I think you might be refering to waiting time in general. Many people here are ordering cars that are not yet built and as a result they're waiting approx 3 mths for build date allocation and then less 2mths for transit..

She said in the voicemail I received (after calling up to enquire, as I was informed to call back in 2 weeks after I ordered the car, so I did).

And the nice lady said "the ETA for your car is Early July"

No mention of it being built and so on.

It is just a far lot less then what everyone else seems to be waiting, and it was also less then what the car dealer and the car dealers manager informed me. They both sat me down and said very plainly (after trying to sell me a car they had in stock), "mate if you custom order this car, you are looking at up to a 7 month wait in some cases".

Is it fair to say if the car has been made, the VIN number be avaliable upon request? If they cant provide the VIN number the ETA they are giving me is just a very vague estimate?

Yep, I understand that, but KennyC was just mentioning his Jan built GTI is scheduled for May delivery....

but I can understand what you mean by "slotted for production" as opposed to the wait whilst "currently in production".

                  • Dealer bait and switch on a GTi

Anybody else had a situation whereby you've negotiated a deal with the sales person on 5 door with all the extras, both agreed on the price and a contract has been produced, only for the sales person to apologise and claim they've mistakenly done all the pricing for a 3 door instead?

The 5 door GTi costs $1500 more than the 3 door.

                            Contract signed? Or just printed?

Do you have a copy of that contract and mind putting up the breakdown on pricing? Then we can tell you whether anything dodgy has happened.

It could be an honest mistake - or it could be the saleman getting his ear ripped out for giving too much of a discount?! We could never know without knowing the details.

                            • The deal is still on the table but here goes....

                              5 door manual
                              Premium blue tooth
                              MDI
                              Park Assist
Privacy Glass (plus dealer tint for front windows)
                              Rear view camera

                              $42,888 on the road.
EDIT - the contract was just printed. He then pointed out the mistake in the code listed under make, it was impossible for me to tell I was signing up for a 3 door at that stage.

Your thoughts? Simple mistake, incompetent, or dodgy?
