  • I ordered my GTI mid December with a March date set for arrival at dealer. Added Park Assist in early Jan which didn't change the arrival date. Added again, Bi-Xenon lights later Jan and was told it may or may not delay the arrival by a few weeks.

My GTI could possibly be a Week 6 build with dealer telling me to expect a 10-12 week wait for arrival at the dealership. 10-12 week wait is std waiting time I'm told.

The GTI was not due to hit the factory floor 6-8 weeks after order date in mid Dec. I do recall dealers telling me to order by first/second week of December 09 to secure a March delivery, rushing to meet a deadline that did not really exist in retrospect. I expect mine to arrive around mid April 10.

    Cheers.

    • Awesome news guys! Bet you can't wait.

For others out there looking at GTI I believe Denlo has 6-7 at the minute.

This week is week 6. Check with your dealer. They should have something for you now.

            • I specified a 2010 build. I can't complain about delay with the additional of Bi-Xenon headlights, but hoping that the GTI is built first or second week of Feb 2010 and its still 10-12 weeks from build date, which is looking more like May 2010, rather than Apr 2010.

Haven't heard anything about extended build times for GTI with Bi-Xenon lights. Perhaps someone can elaborate on whether VW make cars in batches of colour, model variant or options list?

It is a bit anoying that dealers now have so much stock atm, but I'd say they would be 2009 build vehicles given the 10-12 weeks arrival time.

Not going to worry about VIN number traking at this stage, not for about 1 month, until mid March, when I should have a definite date for delivery.

Sold my MKV GTI in November 2009, so looking at 5-6 months without a car. Have a motorcycle, but the wet season in late Jan, Feb & possibly early Mar ain't making not having a vehicle any easier.

              Cheers.

It shouldn't be. Mine comes with Bi-Xeonos.

                • I got a call last week and was informed that my GTI is making it journey to Australia. It should arrive here in early to mid March and by the time the dealer make it all presentable it will be late March for pickup.

                    • New golf 118TSI, tips?

                      Hi all.

Taking delivery of my Golf 118TSI this week.

What are the things I should closely examine at the dealership before drivnig away?

Also, what is the best method you recommend to ride the engine in?
For example,I have heard from various people say that you should not flog it for the first 1000km etc etc.
                      What do you guys do?

Any other general tips for new golf owners?

                      Cheers.

                      • If it has DSG, reset it (ignition on and floor the throttle for 10 seconds, then release the throttle and start as usual) so it will calibrate to your driving style.

                          • Arent the new VWs all 'driven in' prior to installation?

the advice given to me by the dealer was not to exceed 2/3rds of the vehicles top speed for the first 1000kms, then Derek from EA recommended some hard driving to settle in the engine over the first little bit, altering speeds etc

I would agree on the CC though stay away from general freeway driving (cruising at 110km) for the first 1000kms.

                            • Go easy on the brakes for first 100-150km. Avoid extremely hard braking. Give them time to bed in.

I believe that to be a furphy that floats around these and other forums. Yet to see any evidence that it does any other than reset your mental calibration. So I would not waste your time doing that.
