My R is very thirsty. Mostly city driving and "distance to empty" says 340km when I fill it. My GTI used to always be 560km.

It is only a little better economy than my brothers V8 M3!! Not so happy.

I'm rarely in heavy inner city traffic thankfully. More suburban, freeway and country roads. Does your brother drive in the same conditions?

maybe i filled up on an expensive day! i dont really take much notice..because for the sake of saving $5, I dont spend half my day looking for a cheaper servo! if you get the standard 91 here it is about $1.39, plus you can get the 4 cents off.. thats at woolies.. so im guessing $1.55-$1.60 is the going price for the good stuff around here

I'm the same as you, I just decide I'm filling up regardless of price at the same station every time (unless I'm not local of course) and yeh for the sake of 5 or so dollars it isn't worth shopping around.

my R also drinks a SHlT load but at least i enjoy the sound

all those extra awd tranny weight it needs to lug around definitely gonna kill your inner city fuel economy

mines only 90tsi but i love seeing 800 to empty on fills

Say you fill up every 10 days on average, that $5 is almost $200 a year

Can definitely afford the car and the fuel Ryan. Just an observation on the fuel economy.

i gotta say fredstar that economy your getting is worse than what my cammed 6ltr V8 was getting lol and its one of the reasons i got rid of it.

Had a run down to Mandurah and back on the weekend (140kms 100/110 kph) the trip computer reading was 8.6L/100km best ever result for me

lol lucky i didnt get a GTI id be spewing with 8.6 (as my best) & other economys people seem to get... glad i got little 1.4 lol

After 10 fuel up's I'm now getting close to 870 km's from at tank and averaging 5.7l/100kms, best trip has been 5.5l/100kms with with my little 77TSI.

I'm happy with the kms just not with the price increase in petrol going from RON 91 to RON98 adds about 26c per litre to the cost of filling up

re shopping around for fuel: i generally fill at the same station - on the same day every week. regardless of how low my tank is..

The "cheap day" is no longer tuesday - it floats around and changes every week or so. just sign up to fuel watch and have a squiz every second week at the chart for your area and it will tell you the cheap day. IF you care about the $3-5 saving
