Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mine doesn't like V-power at all. Still runs OK, just less distance on a full tank (and Shell charge me for using the fuel card). Smoothest on BP Ultimate 98, but more km from the Vortex 98, go figure.

Car has only had 98 in it since new (11848km since 23 March), and is still going strong.

Oddly, mine tends to do the opposite - more kms on Ultimate and smoother on Vortex. Not too significant km difference, though.

      • My new (1400 km) GTD returned 4.8 l/100 km yesterday on a 140 km trip, the first 30 km of which was city driving. The balance was 100 - 110 kph. I used 4th, 5th and 6th gears just to vary the revs whilst I'm still running it in.

            • haha yeah well noted the number at half a tank used = it was actually 368km. total traveled on that tank before refill was 667. maybe could have pushed another 10-20. so its roughly the same hehe.

              • Just filled up my R for the first time on BP ultimate.. - $86 at $1.68 ... I thought they'd be lucky for fit $65 in..how wrong I was! haha.

My first tank I got was filled up by VW, so im not sure what fuel it was, but I managed 425km's from it..clearly the first week i was making good use of the turbo and having some fun so I thought 425 was good.. considering my 07 STI used to get about 400 and that was babying it every day..

That is expensive. Could be wrong but I think the most I've paid for BP Ultimate is $1.43.

Since getting the R for some reason I have started the habit of filling her up when I'm down to half a tank.

Lets face it I've never driven around in a car with a permanent woody before either.

                      • $1.43 that's a great price. Over my 8 fillups I've averaged $1.53 for BP Ultimate.

Over my last 3 they were all between $1.49-$1.51.

Yeh been lucky so far, mind you I could be wrong at $1.43. I definately know that so far I haven't filled up above $1.50. I fill up at the same station in the eastern suburbs before work early in the week. Maybe down here we are in a low price cycle or something. Yesterday most stations for 91 unleaded was about $1.30 that I happened to notice.

                            • maybe i filled up on an expensive day! i dont really take much notice..because for the sake of saving $5, I dont spend half my day looking for a cheaper servo! if you get the standard 91 here it is about $1.39, plus you can get the 4 cents off.. thats at woolies.. so im guessing $1.55-$1.60 is the going price for the good stuff around here

                              • My R is very thirsty. Mostly city driving and "distance to empty" says 340km when I fill it. My GTI used to always be 560km.

It is only a little better economy than my brothers V8 M3!! Not so happy.
