TSI 118 Fuel Consumption Increase
Guys
My fuel consumption which has averaged about 7 lit/100 km has suddenly shot up to above 9 lit/100 km. My driving conditions have not changed, mostly highway driving. I recall there has been some discussion on fuel consumption on TSI 118's but I can't locate it. This increase happened sometime after the last service at 60,000 km. The clutch plates were also replaced then because of the DSG shudder during that service. I have not felt the DSG shudder since the clutch plate replacement, although the car feels a little underpowered sometimes. I am taking the car in for 75,000 km service tomorrow. Anyone having issues with increase in fuel consumption? Any advice?

Mabye ask VW when you take it in for its service tomorrow if they uploaded a new software file onto the engine at the last service?
The 118TSI's initially ran far too lean (not enough fuel = engine runs very hot and can cause engine failures) when they were first released in the MK6 shape and VW has released upgraded software several times to make the engine run richer (use more fuel = engine runs cooler and is safer for the engine). If your software was upgraded at your 60k service, then this may well be the reason why your car is now using another litre or two more fuel per 100km.

Thanks for the tip, Lucas.

Out of interest, have you changed your tyres recently?
I have averaged 7.2 l/100 km but when i switched to michelin pilot sports 3 it is now averaging 7.8l/100km. Disappointing, but i love the cornering ability and wet weather confidence!
Though that doesnt explain the hefty increase in thirst.
I wonder if they havent installed something correctly like a spark plug, new air filter. My car felt peppy again after the 60,000km service.Skoda Octavia Mk3

Re: The MK6 Fuel Consumption (Most / Least per Tank) Thread
Sounds like you should have bought an na rather than a turbo
But of a shame really

Even at idle the turbo is spinning...although its not actually generating boost pressure, its still "working" as such even if you never revved it above 2-2.5k RPM.
