Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • reset your MFD Average consumption counter. Mine sat flat at 11.5 no matter what sort of driving I did. After a reset it fluctuates with my right foot

      • That's pretty normal behaviour for engines as far as I know. They bed in and get better with a little age under the belt.

How do you reset your MFD? Are you talking about the 1 or 2 program reset. My 1 resets itself automatically after a few hours at rest.

Can anyone give me a link to the gear ratio difference between the 7 speed DSG and the 6 speed manual. I couldn't find them in the online brochure.

        • Yes just the 1 or 2 program reset

              You mean rice crackers..

Though I don't agree, I think a better analogy would be buying a 6 bedroom, 3 bathroom, 2 kitchen house and everyone living in 1 room ( enter carbon tax)

                      Overall, 7.8 l/100km.
Just a FYI, but you may already be aware - but you can set the cruise on about 119-120kph and you will only be "really" travelling at 110-111kph. I went past cops last weekend sitting on an indicated 120-122kph (real speed about 112kph) and they didn't even look twice at me.

Im getting the "Real" speed off my P3 gauge which reads directly off the ECU.

                      • 115 on GPS.

Having said that, on 115 via GPS, speedo is reading 120 or so

My P3 gauge reads differently again and I don't trust it TBH

                        • +1 the GPS readout is more accurate over the speedometer.

I had a TomTom setup on our Easter drive to Melbourne, running alongside the RNS510. This may sound strange however when I heard that fixed speed cameras in Victoria have no warning signs before them like the ones here in NSW I thought I'd use the TomTom as an alert device.

The irony: I was busted for speeding anyways just before the border by a cop hiding at the bottom of a hill. His radar pinged me at 122ks, my GPS readout was exactly the same (speedo was showing >130) For the rest of the trip I set the cruise @ 121ks, drove past two more cops in Victoria - no dramas.

Fuel consumption for the trip (Sydney > Melbourne > Twelve Apostles via Great Ocean Road > back to Sydney) 5.9/100 That's with 4 people + luggage. Range on the MFD 860kms - highest figure I've ever seen on the car. Pretty accurate as well, only had to refuel 3 times. Cheaper than flying there.

                            • I just reset the odo every time I fill up - I also keep a logbook because I am on 85% business usage.

I've averaged 620 out of the last 5 tanks.

I need to drive it harder.

But if you are doing the Newie to Sydney run regularly, that kind of use is hardly surprising, also a performance tune tends to lean it up a bit over stock meaning slightly better economy. I don't get anywhere neat your economy toddling (or as you witnessed Saturday, hooning) around Sydney, only on longer journeys I might approach the magic 9l/100km..
