A friend in Hong Kong with one of these said her car had the squeal and it was fixed under warranty as it was a known issue with the water pump. I wonder if it come back on her car?

Volkswagen really do know what this issue is they tried a different friction lining for the Supercharger clutch and it did not work! They are now trying the same friction lining material that they use for the clutches of the 7 speed DSG's! A new pump will be out next year to try! This noise is not detrimental to the Engine in any way!

My Golf (March built and manual) Started making the dreaded chirp this morning on the way to work. It has 4760kms on it now. It's fait but it's 100% there. For me to hear it i have to have the window down and the stereo off, but with the window up, AC on and the Dyn's pumping I can't hear it and I'm not too worried about it.MY20 Golf GTI TCR

Just realised that mine has the squealing noise as well. The water pump was replaced before, so it would seem that this problem affects even the newer pumps.
I noticed that the noise only appears when the car has warmed up some. The warmer it is, the louder the squeal?MY09 Golf GT TSI

I had mine replaced in July (for the 2nd time and supposedly new design) the squeak (though softer) came back after about 4000km, and I was resigned to living with the noise. However, it appears to have faded away and now, at 50,000km, the supercharger has been engaging without any noticeable sound.Tig 162 R-Line; Audi TT

Squeek back
A while back (sept 09) i wrote that VW service had admitted to the squeek noise being an issue (as already 3 times i had my water pump changed at a different dealership).
They said that in Feburary a permanent Water Pump (VW is working on a solution) replacement will be available to replace defective ones.
As a temporary fix, they opted to replace my water pump 2 more times since Septemeber, squeek came back mid January. That was nice of them anyway to try and they did say most likely the current fix will only be temporary anyway, but worth a try, might be lucky. Not so...
Back in Sept 09 i called "VW CUSTOMER CARE", as this was what the dealership recommended, i explained the issue and told them that i was told that the permanent fix will be coming in around Feb 2011. Customer care logged the issue and opened a case, and said to ring back in February if my car is not fixed with permanent solution. They said that compensation will be discussed if this issue is not fixed (because the delaership has admitted the problem).
It is now exactly 1 year since i have had my car, and water pump replaced about 4 times.
I will advise when i ring them on Monday to check up on the Permanent solution.

I have been squeal free for 9500k but yesterday the squeal made it's dreaded appearance. Darn.I booked the car in for a service and mentioned the squeal. The service manager enquired with his technical people - they still have not heard of VW coming up with the fix.
Appears when I blipped the throttle between gear changes - I have a TSI 118 6 speed manual - both on upshift and downshift.
I hope my problem is not the water pump. But I did notice that my car blew off a lot of smoke when I floored it the other day............

I did call the VW Customer Care number and a lady said that she will find out a bit more and get back to me as she had not heard of the famous squeak problem. It has taken more than 2 weeks for her to call back today - she will check with the dealer and get back to me! It will be 2 years in late Aug 2011 and I have had 1 waterpump replaced (and the squeal came back after about a week or so of the replacement).
Will continue to wait ....

Would you mind asking Austral for the TPI (Techical Product Information) or recall number for the fix?
I just got off the phone with my local dealer and they haven't heard anything yet.
Thanks
