  • Tuning the Golf 90 TSI - Whaddayareckon?

Anyone know if the boggo golf 6 can be tweaked? I wonder if how similar it is to the twincharger.. obviously no supercharger... guessing it would have a smaller turbo to provide better low down torque..

1.4 with a big fat turbo could be fun... nothing, nothing, nothing, then WOOOSH!!

It could very well be chipped etc in the near future. Size (of the engine) will be a limiting factor but I'd expect 130+kw chipped and with more mods you could potentially squeeze quite a bit more out of it.

Just pay the extra $10K and buy the GTI .... you get so much more than just extra power......

Its a TSI engine Tee Ess Eye... Turbocharged Supercharged Injection. So it has a supercharger and turbocharger.

In the USA the GTI engine is called TSI and it isn't supercharged.

"Volkswagen’s TSI twin or single-charged engine combines our innovative and worldleading direct injection petrol technology with turbocharging. " Seems they forgot to mention the supercharger when it comes to twin-charging though.

        The 90TSI is a 1.4 Turbo, the 118TSI is the twin-charged 1.4

Turbocharged Stratified Injection / Twincharged Stratified Injection

I wish VW would make up their minds on what their different acronyms mean, although don't the twin-charged models have a red T and the turbo only models have a silver T... still a PITA though.

Personally I think the 90TSI will attract more buyers than the old 1.6FSI, especially in auto. The 1.6 was painfully slow. The 90TSI is almost on par with the 103TDI in terms of 0 - 100 acceleration.

My favorite is the TFSI in the new Audi S4... It's a supercharged V6

And yep Sharkie, I'd have to have a GTI if I bought a new golf. With DSG and active chassis control.

            The RS6 is a twin-turbo V10.

The S4 is changing from an NA V8 to a supercharged V6.

I bow my head in shame and disgust and apologise.

According to http://www.ausmotive.com/downloads/V...pecs-Feb09.pdf the bog stock car is only turbo, no super. (but then WTF call it TSI?)

As Golfworx tried over and over to explain recently, the TSI badge no longer means turbocharged and supercharged. For example, petrol turbo Jettas formerly badged TFSI have been badged TSI for at least 12 months now. VW simply decided to change their nomenclature perhaps just to throw us all into a state of confusion!

                    Cheers

                      badging

... and the change in badging is especially confusing when the TSI brochure on the VW web site describes the twin-charger (it is a 2007 brochure).

Couldn't VW have explored the other 23 letters in the alphabet?

TSI just means direct injection forced induction. it can be any kind or a mixture of.

                        FSI just means direct injection.

                            Fella's - I had 5 x Golf VI's here today.

Is easy to tell the difference:

90kw TURBO ONLY the badge is TSI

118KW TWINCHARGER the badge is TSI
