Some people may genuinely prefer it, but I think the three door looks, well, a bit cheap.

well price on the 3dr are cheaper too...
considering the actual shape/silhouette of 3dr and 5dr are exactly the same (no difference in dimension), getting 3dr doesn't make it look any sexier than 5dr.
oh and regarding 8 yrs plus driving the same car, aren't we in Australia where the average people still drive around in their 10 year old cars - 9.7 years which is the average age of cars on the road.

Technically the GTI has the same shape/silhouette of the 77TDI Trendline, so that's good argument you make there
And yes, the average age of cars on the road is 9.7 years.
But last I looked, we also have a second-hand car market. Which means new car buyers are not keeping their cars for anywhere near 9.7 years

thank's to the new car stimulus handed out a while ago, not sure though how much was it really passed onto buyers. 2nd hand market are really crap now, another good reason to keep the car and don't bother the trouble of selling it (although I sold my V35 grey import in 2 days - surprisingly). would be interesting to see the next ABS statistic update if that really brings the average age down.
back to topic... this is not actually a photo, but rather an illustration. since I can't easily find mk6 pics black on black - but what do you think of this style, black on black with red highlights?

For me its the longer doors and smaller fixed rear window that makes 3 door > 5 door. Practicallity wise having to constantly fold the seats forward for passengers is annoying so its lucky i dont have to deal with that!
Heres some pics btw:

hey? the red one is not an mk6 golf...?
long doors can be a pain when you return to your car and find out that the car next to you have parked a tad too close to your driver's door!
apparently since our average parking bay here is nowhere as wide as, say, the average bay in US, then I did find that situation quite often... normally I had to be a bit picky to park my car where there is already a car on my driver's side (early bird parking is ok) although it won't stop that car from leaving and replaced by another car with a driver who parks too close again...
maybe next mk7 golf should have either gullwing or scissor door ala Lambo?
