Why are there two versions of the RCD510? The buttons are different on this car to what's in most/photos in the VW brochure ....
Is it because it is the RNS510 not the RCD510. The RNS510 has 4 buttons on each side while the RCD has 3 on each

There are actually three versions as described in the manual for the RCD 510.
These new buttons (as on kennyc's car) are the new version C, without dedicated buttons for features that generally don't work in Australia (eg TP), and with separate buttons for AM and FM. I expect that all new RCD 510s delivered to au should be of this type.

I believe BBP is (correctly) referring to variations in the specific button labels/actions, rather than the number of buttons.
