    • Pfft! Don't be ridiculous! Silver and white are for boring peoples (sorry, no offense to the boring people ). Plus, white and silver show stone chips better, get a stone chip on a black car, and you've got dark metal below it anyway!

But yeah - I can understand DracZ not wanting to put paint protection film on that surface, because obviously the clear coat has been buffed down to a mirror, sealed, and waxed. It looks awesome, but in my experience from friends, it's not possible to maintain that for anything other than a show car. It's just that in every day motoring, especially if you drive on highways and in the country, you are GOING to get stone chips and scratches.

For regular people who are happy with the 'factory paint finish', get paint protection film applied asap after delivery, and when you come to sell the car in 7 years, the paint will be as good as new!

      • Excuse my ignorance, but when you get the film applied, do they have to strip the clear coat back, or can (and do), they just apply the film over the showroom finish?
        I am considering doing it....
perhaps just to the bonnet (front area). Just depends on price. After all the hail damage, we are out of pocket having to replace our other car which was written off also.

The clear coat is on top of the actual paint, but most detailers will polish the clearcoat to rid it of any imperfections, allowing the depth of paint to shine through etc. Wax further deepens that shine and also adds a further layer of protection to your clearcoat.

In the process of applying the invisible shield however, all wax and paint sealants will have to removed in order for it to properly adhere to the surface. So in effect it goes right on top of the clear coat and nothing more.

IMHO I would still go for a proper detail sans any application of product on top of the clear coat, that way you will still rid yourself of the numerous scratches / swirls that the dealer has lovingly added to your car in their "pre-delivery" detail.

I talked to James from 'Invisible Car Bras' here in Melbourne about a quote for my 118TSI earlier, be happy to forward you the prices via email etc. Just let me know.

Yes, this is great advice. To go one step further, since the car has to be 100% perfect before you go sticking film on top of it, I would arrange that the detailer comes to the workshop of the 'Invisisble Car Bras' person on the morning of the installation of the paint protection film.

As part of the process of the PPF being installed, it's the owners responsibility to ensure the car is clean/cleaned on arrival, so getting a car detailer to do it is perfect.

                      • My new 118 TSI Wagon!

Hi everybody! I just took a few photos of my new 118 TSI Wagon.

Has about 900km on the clock now and has been driving great, loving the VW transition. She's a little beauty!

Had to give up 'Penelo the Peugeot', a 206, to get her, and will take some time in giving her a name, but i feel a great relationship building

I don't think i've seen anyone else on here with a wagon yet so i hope i can give anyone looking at one some information on it if they want!

Yes, that's because it is a northern hemisphere car. Our toilets flush backwards too!
