Im about to get myself IE Stage 1 for my 6sp Manual Golf R
With no need for any other mods needed what would prudent
to look at components to strengthen at the weakest point
I would recommend new ignition coil packs unless the ones you have a pretty new. The ignition coil packs are prone to failure on those engines after a few years, and pushing them harder with a tune will show up any weak ones pretty quickly, resulting in misfires under load.
Other than that, try the low torque file and see how your clutch handles it. The stock clutch can be overpowered by the increase in torque.
Indeed thanks for your support
Everything is stock so in the time Ive had the car 2 years the coil packs havent been touched
Any recommendations as there are a few different ones available
Also, nothing wrong with IE at all (i use them myself) but there is another American based tuning company called 034 Motorsport and their pricing is very competitive at the moment which on sale. Just for consideration. Its $650 for the tune and $150 for the DIY flashing tool. 034 Motorsport - Volkswagen Golf MK6R Tuning - Stage 1 & 2 ECU tunes– VAGPARTS Australia
Check the cam follower, nothing dampens the spirit worse than having one wear through.
Yep good call - I forgot about the good old cam follower. If you don't know if or when this cheap part was last changed - then change it now. If it fails then it will cost you a small fortune.
Thanks Lucas I did look at both 034 and IE .In your opinion is the 034 more progressive and the IE is just plain aggressive looking at delivering a gradual build up in power and torque

Honestly all the stage 1 tunes are pretty much similar - the only difference really are from if you where to get a custom tune done. With the custom tunes, you might see an extra 5-10kw, but from 034 / IE they will both be very similar. Most of the tuning companies offer a low torque version of the stage 1 and stage 2 tunes, which are basically for the manual cars as the clutches are known to being overwhelmed by the torque increase from the tune and they can slip.
