Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mk6 R low beam moving while driving

    G'day all,

I recently changed both low beams globes in my 2011 R. I removed the front bar and both headlights to make it easier (fat hands and had the time).

Since replacing them, i've noticed the drivers side lowbeam adjusts waaaayyyyy out to the right into oncoming traffic when slowing down to a stop and then readjusts straight when taking off once I reach say 15 km/h.

    What. The. Hell.

    Any ideas or thoughts?

    Cheers.

Do you have cornering lights and connected things up wrong

Pretty sure when i had my Mk6 R a few years back that the headlights would move once you got above a certain speed and focus more directly ahead of you. At slower speeds they would move and focus more sideways (if that makes sense) so you can see gutters/corners etc.

I might be wrong, but this is what i remember although i haven't owned the car for about 6 years now.

It's one plug... How can it be hooked up wrong?

Yeah right. If that's the case I've never been too aware of it because now it's SUPER noticeable.

Oh I was serious!? Not sure if I've got cornering lights. Like, could I have put the bulb in wrong? It seemed to only want to fit in one way so that's how I left it.
