Hi Guys, I need some advise on what to do with my MK6 GTi, last week I noticed the car (forgive me for the lack of technicality) was having transmission hick ups in low speed driving. It will either not go up in gears (Rev was in red but the speed can barely get over 5 KM) or I will get a kick from transmission. So I've taken back the car back to he dealership, initial diagnostics suggest I just need a software update, but problem persisted and after the second check up yesterday I was told there is a electronic fault with my transmission and whole thing needs to be replaced for approx. $9800. so I am stuck to either cop the fee or sell the car, however will there any dealer willing to accept car with transmission faults?

Sorry to hear
It does sound like a mechatronic issue but if they are saying the whole transmission needs changing, I don't know..... maybe try diagnosing at a different dealer and then contacting VW directly to see if they can assist with a full/part goodwill repair .. that may be your best bet but not knowing your ownership/servicing /modification history .. it's hard to say.
Owners have had degrees of luck with getting these sorts of repairs under goodwill (even older cars). Good luck.RS

I think you'd have a very hard time selling the car that requires major repairs without taking a massive hit.
Fix it and then either keep it or sell it.
As Tuan said you may be able to get some assistance through VW, however only if it's never been modified and has a full service history (ideally dealership).
If you're the original owner they may look after you better (hoping that you'll buy another new car).
The other option is to talk to a good independent VW workshop and get them to assess/quote. The thing to keep in mind is that VW dealerships will only replace with genuine new parts (hence the high parts costs). Independents can look at repairing with second-hand and/or reconditioned parts that often saves a big chunk of $. Particularly if you're thinking of selling the car you won't want to tip in more than you have to.

Great idea regarding getting a 2nd hand/reco parts .. your car may have a few years left in it yet and may be worth the smaller than dealer outlay if the other options don't work out .. or you could sell it after fixing it ... but not on here .. lolRS

You could look at getting a Mechatronic/DSG from a wrecker and fitting that.
Should be significantly less that brand new from dealer.
But obviously not guaranteed like getting dealership transmission.

Mechatronics replacement would be a touch over 3K. Not quite as easy as buying a secondhand one as the software needs to be compatible.
