Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • ACC reliability issues/degradation in MK6 Golf R?

    Hi guys,
Had a question as we are looking to buy a MK6 Golf R in the very near future.

I like the sound of the ACC (Adaptive Chassis Control) option and many of the cars coming up for sale have it - have any of you experienced or heard of reliability issues popping up with the system in the MK6? Similarly, is the system known to ‘degrade’ in functionality or effectiveness with wear over time any more so than standard suspension?

I’m new to the forum and had a poke around for an answer - found lots of threads from people who either loved or didn’t think they needed ACC but couldn’t find much on the system failing.

    Cheers!

I've put 25,000kms on mine (just about to roll over to 60,000kms in total, i'm the second owner) and there have been no problems with ACC.

I do fear the day that dampers need replacing though. In all likelihood, i'll have them replaced with something normal and have the ACC stuff turned off via VAGCOM.

The dampers can and do fail i have seen posts on other forums anywhere from 60k to 120k others have more with no issues but they are pricey to replace and it is common to just get standard dampers to replace them

I have a full set of ACC shocks from my Mk6 R that came off the car at about 60K/3 years old. Happy to ship them if anyone is in need.
With regard to the question, I loved the ACC option and it never failed. I’ve never heard of reliability being an issue. If anything, I’d say they’d wear better than standard shocks. The system is essentially a bunch of sensors, the 4 shocks with actuators and a single driver’s button. As with any additional electronics, there’s risk of things going wrong and needing repair, but I’ve never experienced it with ACC.
