Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Changing gear on DSG

Hey how bad is it if I was driving on the drive gear going 20km/h about to make a turn then accidentally put it into neutral when I was going up hill and the car was rolling down and I didn’t know about it and I kept accelerating wondering why it’s going down hill only to realise it was put on neutral so I braked a bit but don’t think I fully stopped the car then i put it back into drive and I heard jerking revving noise after I put it back to drive from neutral and accelerated. How badly of a damage would it have on the transmission? Please note my car is an auto DSG.

    Is it working ok now??

The box was trying to rev match at relatively low speed, I wouldn’t be worried, not a lot that can be done for now anyway.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I'm far from a DSG expect, but....

If you didn't hear a huge drawn out crunchy grind then you are probably ok.

A tell tale sign that you have ground out a disk is a kind of free revving slip.

      Again, not an expect....
