how to stop axle tramping wheel hopping?

Just a suggestion ... take the lead out of your right boot a little. Helps wonderously.

moderation of the right foot helps a lot yes. But in the MK5 the axle tramp is particularly violent! torque arm inserts are supposed to help dramatically. Ill be installing mine early next month so will see how it goes

All of the above, but they go up in price in the order you have listed them.

Is the axle tramp caused by ESP modulating power?
I get it with ESP on, but not a great deal with ESP off (which is quite rare).

Either way, it's a 'kin awful sound.

If you have a lazy 3 or 4 grand lying about, you could investigate a LSD...

Its more when you break traction and regain it. That it probably why it happens more with ESP on.

Definately fit a torque arm insert. Its a great thing for sopping that tramping feeling. You wont regret it.

The APR hard nylon insert for about $100 for the lower bush is both quite simple and makes a noticable difference. If you still launch really hard it will still hop, but you can launch at 4/5 without hop whereas before it was lower. When it does hop, it's less violent too. From here, the cost of improvement increases a LOT. I agree with the other posters, learning some launch control is the biggest help!

Get suspension. That will eliminate it completely unless ur flogging it in the rain.

Also tyres play a big part.
