  • Brisbane Mechanic - MKV GTI New Timing Belt and CamShaft

    Hi all

I need a new mechanic (Brisbane / Cannon hill / Carindale) as my old one has shut up shop and I need timing belt done as I am coming up to 105km.
Also have been have fuel issue over the 12+ months and have been replaced the following

    LPFP
    Module for LPFP
Cam Follow - 10k km ago which was 11/2015 by my last mechanic
    Fuel Filter

Yesterday I was replacing the HPFP and was doing it with another mechanic and we found that my fuel pump \ cam follower was the cause totally destroyed (see images) . Even though my last mechanic who no longer around put a cam follower in 10k km ago he said that old one was still fine.

So not sure what he did or didn't do but have a look at these pictures and you can see the damage, wouldn't have thought this could happen in 10k km.

So recommendation on a good mechanic that can do the work and for a good price. Don't mind paying a little more as long as I know it is done properly.

    Thanks

German Autos geebung is my 1st choice.
Or Prestiege and Performance Coorparoo gets some love on here.

That cam follower is bad news. I just replaced mine and the old one was not too worn, I hope it is not a common thing. Ill be checking mine more often now.
What brand was the part ?
    MK4 GTI - Sold
    MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
    MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.

The Cam Follower was bought from the dealer Austral parts so Genuine OEM.
So I am wondering if my new one was even fitted.

If I put a new HPFP and Cam follower in will the car be ok to driver for a week or so?
Or not really recommended till I get the CamShaft replaced?

        Why risk the new pump.
Does the old pump still work at all ?
Put it back the way it was. Install all the new stuff together.

Or new follower old pump, then get a new follower again next week with the new cam and pump.

Follower doesn't just destroy itself in 10kms.... He probably didn't replace it - shame his not open anymore you'd have a warranty. I wouldnt drive it till it's all fixed, just risking it for more damage. Is the cam noisey when engine running?

Yeah I wish I could get warranty claim but that isn't going to happen.
The engine sounds normal when running no different noise that I can hear.
