Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'm in Sydney. I don't know if there are any Sydney people out there who have done this. There must be but haven't heard from them or seen them on the road.

The guy in Melbourne who is going to change the lenses said he sent a pair up last week.

Bit of a problem there logzy....

You number plate doesn't take into account the ST3, perhaps a new plate is called for when you have the fast road programme loaded?

Yes, I thought the same thing when i saw the photo.
Looks like I'm off to superbrightleds.com

Ive also been thinking of mounting a couple of luxeon LEDS in the lower part of the rear bar, so you cant see them, and have them as additional reversing lights.

The VW reversing light is hopeless on a dark winding driveway.

I will probably be ordering a set within a month or two... just a question, most of the sites say that "professional installation recommended for VAG-COM programming" or something like that..... why do the lights need the VAG-COM to be programmed?! this is with the OEM LED tails

They dont need VAG COM programming over here, its only required in the USA i think to change the indicators from the amber color flash to red.
They are just plug and play.

Hi Logzy, I know this post it's a bit old,

As you see i'm starting to mod my MKV Golf, i'm about to buy those tails too, but i'm a bit worried about the install, are they plug-play? like you said,

Are the sockets the same? what about the fog light on the other side?, TM Tuning only sale the model with the Fog on the left side, were you able to swap it?,

                      Thanks for your help!,

Hi. Yes the OEM LED Tail lights are plug and play, no VAG-COM required.
You will need to do the lens swap though for the reverse and fog lights.

If your handy and precise with the dremel and can take care with things then they are easy to do, just take a little time.

                            Hey Logzy,

Did you got them from TM Tuning?,

Stupid American and their red flashing indicators.. I've found these smoked red tail lights that'd look sweeet on my black Jetta (am contacting oempl.us to see if they'd work and if they have the amber indicator):

Not too fussed on losing the LEDs. While I like them, I don't like the way you can only see them if you're directly behind them.

The OEMpl support sucks, I think the guy who answers the info email doesn't know what they sale!, don't trust much of what they say,

                                Good luck with the tails!
