Jetta owners (TFIS particuarly) car quirks, likes or dislikes?

HI ALL!

Looking very seriously at buying a TFSI Jetta. Going down to the dealers on Saturday to try and hook up some test drives.

Basically my current car, I bought from Japan based on some photos, and based on that experience I'm probably going too far the other way on buying this next car. Anyway!

Whoever owns a Jetta, what are the good or more importantly bad quirks on the car you have found? The stuff you don't pick up on for the first week, much less in a 30min test drive round the back streets of the dealers shop front. If I know about these things prior to going for a test drive, I can at least see how they affect me.

Also, I've read all through that 'how much did you pay' thread, and only one TFSI owner has come clean as to what they paid. So I would also be interested at how much people paid LESS ON ROADS if possible. Just to give me a bargining bench mark. I would think this time of year would be a damn fine time to be buying a car.

Hi Daveo,

I will have had my Jetta TFSI for 2 years in September and can only speak positively about the car. It is smooth, fast and economical, probably a bit of a sleeper in a sense, no one expects her to pick up her skirt and move the way she does.

DSG is sensational, always seems to be able to find the appropriate gear, combines beautifully with the engine which itself is a pearler.

Mine is totally free of rattles, suspension is very firm, some might say a bit too firm but I'm happy the way it is, it certainly handles well.

If I have any nitpicking criticisms, I have a very skinny backside and think the seats should have more padding, and if that is all I can whinge about I'm doing well!

Go drive one, you will love it.

I was given one by a dealer for the day when my car was being serviced. It was quite new, and overall a very nice vehicle. I didn't like the very flat initial power delivery of the engine (TDI), and didn't recall the GT diesel that I drove being anything like that. Interior was pretty basic, and quite drab, with charcoal on black (or vice versa). I figured a chip in the engine, and and nicer colour would have made it quite livable.

After two years, my partners only moan is that the boot lighting is poor !

There really isn't anything else major. The later years have the full MFD in the dash (which would be nice) and a labeled on/off stereo button which were good improvements...

Ive had one since August 07.

My experience is:

Good points:
-Economical, you can get 550-650km out of a tank
- you can reflash your ecu giving you more power (500km a tank) and can buy many goodies for it from the USA.
-Better quality than jap cars in interior
-Has similar set up like bmw in interior and has lots of features more than bmw.
-its got a very big boot so its good with up and coming couples / families.
-the golf GTI looses out big in this department and hence why more women drive the GTI.
-lots of compartments.
-looks prestige without the price tag

Bad points:
-Radio doesnt play MP3 - new ones should.
-suspension not stiff enough on stock 17s but can be fixed with bigger wheels and bump stops (hardens them up)
- too much chrome for my liking
- the continental contisport 2's that come with the car are VERY loud, ive since changed mine.

I paid $47,000 or thereabouts, made to order, on a black jetta TFSI, bixenons, sunroof, leather.

The only quirk relates to the DSG - my wife doesn't like the slight rollback when you take off on a hill. Doesn't worry me though!

Having previously owned a Corolla (which I still think a realiable, light & zippy car), I've been driving my Jetta TFSI since Dec '06 and has never looked back since!

Still love at the first sight even today as it was when I picked it up from dealer... (I was gunning for Honda Euro before) but at last minute saw a Jetta on TV. Love the big boot and LED tail lights... the DSG trans can be a bit jerky at low speed but once you hit 40-50kph should be awesome especially if you push it hard!

My only disappointment is the lack of courtesy light on each door (replaced by a reflector instead) that's all...

Other than that...it's awesome !!

Ok picked mine up Wed so have had it for approx 48hrs, so can only go from intitail impressions (although i have barely gotten out ). Very much agree with moguzhan especially with the Pros. I would add the following

- DSG is just superb, i love it and don't find it jerky. Love the cluthless manual mode very smooth. i just wish to go up a gear you 'tapped down' and to go down a gear you 'tap up'. Most high performance cars do it this way. Mum and dad cars go 'up is up'.
- I have an 08 model and as such my cd player does playback mp3s
- i think its just the right amount of chrome actually.
- Handles really well but the stock tyres are so so poor
- New MFD dash brilliant. even with my ipod adapter hooked up very easy and convenient.

I did alot of research like many others on this forum before i made my final decision. The VW ticked all the boxes (with ease) and was great value, couldnt fault it.

Also paid just under 47k on road for my 08 graphite blue, beige leather, sunroof, ipod, bluetooth, second set of mats (black) and the boot liner.

Be prepared to wait though - i was 4 months

I have had my 07 Jetta since November 2006,and sum it up by saying it is quiet,smooth,powerful,and economical.
It is my 4th VW,and all have given exceptional servive.
I shopped around,and looked at everything,but this car felt and looked more special than the rest.
Very good value for money.
My advice would be to GO FOR IT,like all the other owners I have spoken to,we all love our babies.

Sorry, whats the MFD dash? Not that I've looked that hard but what is it?

Those prices arent too bad given the options. I'm just planing on going for standard, unless they want to do me a ripper deal on a demo. Idealy Id like $40k on road.

Anyway going for a test drive tomorrow, see how that goes. Who knows, I could have rocks in my head and not like how they drive :-P

That's because the clutch isn't engaged, so it's effectively in neutral. On a steep hill the roll back will be more than enough to put you into the car behind.

Easy solution...it's called the handbrake.

I think VW has driveaway deals for Golf/Jetta twice a year(mid & end)?? You can also explore the fleet discount (that I totally missed out).

I paid $46.4k driveaway back in Dec '06 for my MY07 already in stock with silver paint, charcoal leather, sunroof and bi-xenon...luckily didn't have to endure the suspense of months of waiting time

I will add if you can stretch the budget get leather trim. Huge upgrade over the cloth trim imo and gives it that upmarket feel.

Went out on the hunt today. Had a quick drive, but being 10am on a Saturday, you can imagion they were busy.

Anyway. No options other than metalic paint. $40700 drive away no more to pay, for the turbo FSI that is. How do people think that sits? That was no bargining, just the price they gave me out of the box.

Either way, I'm going back for a good 1-2hour test drive next Saturday, they have already locked me in for that. Give it a good run over roads I drive everyday so I know what its really like. Give the stereo a flog etc. All feels right so far.
