  • Clutch for GTI manual

Anyone had any experience repairing the clutch or having the clutch for a 6MT GTI replaced in whole or in part?

No slipping, but gear selection, especially reverse, has become difficult and sometime impossible and mechanic suspects a whole new clutch will be required which aftermarket is $1500 plus labour...for a clutch! Amazing.
If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

Have a look on ebay - you can get Sachs branded clutches (who make the OEM clutches for the VW's anyway) for around the $900-1000 mark.

Most of the cost of the new clutch is attributed to the fact that you have to replace the dual mass flywheel when you do a clutch change. This is the case for pretty much any modern car - not just VW.

      Thanks, Lucas.

My mechanic says an aftermarket clutch is $1500. I'll look on ebay.

Your mechanic has put his mark up on it.I use Imparts and off the top of my head they are under a grand, not by much though and usually same brand as original.
