I got a great deal with the RACV for my TSI, around $750 (rating 1). AAMI quoted me about $1200 but I was in a different rating category under them.

        Gee. Zus.

My R32 is literally half that with NRMA. Unless you're living in a street in downtown Mt Druitt where known thieves live either side of you and you hang your keyring on a hook outside your front door, I just don't get it...

I don't know how safe I'd feel going with an insurance company named 'bingle', I'd want to see how they acted when others bingled before I'd trust them with my hard earnds.

            Hoyhoy.
Matt, I think you better recheck with NRMA, they do not allow any after market intercoolers at all (quoted by them today), also suspension drops by more than 30mm.
            Hooroo.

              Three words: Inner. City. Sydney.

Not as grubby or rough as the 'Druitt but the druggos use much harder gear and are a lot edgier

              In less than two years:
              • We had the last Golf broken into (smashed window and crowbar to the door) to steal a GPS *bracket* and $2.00 in spare change;
              • Next door neighbour had has Alfa broken into and stereo system removed.
              • Neighbour two doors up is a builder and had his Landcruiser ute thing (chocablock full of power tools etc) stolen
              • Guy across from us had his shiny yellow Audi TT trampled by pub patrons (ran over the top of it denting just about every up-facing panel)
              • Other next door neighbour had his Honda motorcycle stolen
              • Break-ins (or attempted break-ins) to garages which face a rear laneway every other night (it's unusual to spot fingerprints or crowbar marks on the bottom of your rollerdoor!)

                I'm with RACV rating 1 (24, 6yr exp) and paying around $1300.

How on earth did you get such a low quote?

I was pretty surprised too, I'm 23, 5 years exp. I can only guess that it's down to where I live (suburbs, garaged)? What were you quoted by other insurers?

5 years ago when I was trying to insure my Civic Gli (market value $12,000) RACV quoted me - I kid you not - $5,000 p.a.

There's nearly 50% difference in quotes, I don't think location can account for that much.

Other insurers at the time (GIO, AAMI, Justcars) wanted 18-2600. GIO was the highest one.

I'm not looking forward to the policy renewal that's coming up in less than 2 months.

When did you take out your policy? I took mine out less than a month ago, I'm really stabbing in the dark here but maybe they've reassessed the risk invovled? I got an online estimate first but it was actually cheaper once I called up. Might be interesting to see what estimate you'd get if you tried it now.

The difference between my address 'near Redfern' and my sisters 20km away in Eastwood was 30%. After talking to them on the phone, cause Suncorp's website couldnt handle my Banks BSB, I talked them down $70. The ph operators seem to have a small margin the're allowed to play with when negotiating

The operator made a mistake when I was insuring the GTI and quoted me on the GT TSI instead which was $100 cheaper per annum then the GTI.

The premium for a nominated driver policy with an exclusion for under 25 drivers came to $584 per year. This included the options of Sat Nav, leather, tint, accessories etc and 3 year new for old in the event of a write off or theft along with choice of repairer.

                          <10km west from Brisbane cbd.

I believe it's a method they use to discourage certain vehicles from being put under cover as they have determined it to be at too high risk... But if you're stupid enough to actually pay that amount of money to insure it, they'll take it.

I have heard of quotes that are actually more than the value of the vehicle.

This was July last year, I took an online estimate for my renewal

So now it's 25yr old with 7yrs driving exp, no at fault accidents, and the premium went up from 1360 to around 1500. And this is when they're giving me rating 1 for life, (same as 65% NCB?).

I don't think RACV is going to get repeat business from me. They also upped their under 25s age excess from 400 to 1600 (that's on top of the $500 at fault excess)

BTW, this is with a Golf GT, not a Golf GT Sports, not sure if that will make a difference but I'm about to find out.

edit: Playing with the RACV online estimate...
                              Golf GT - $1464
                              Golf GT Sports - $1450

WHY IS THAT THE CASE?????!!!!! It's stupid, they're mechanically the same car!

edit2: Playing with location, lowest I've gotten it is 1100ish.

                              Things I've discovered:
You save roughly $1-150 if you're female
You save roughly $1-200 if your car isn't the security for a loan

I tried playing around with the suburbs, putting in Ringwood which is near where I live gets me a similar quote to my $750; for Melbourne it goes up to about $850; for Sunshine it jumps to $1000.

Edit: I changed the car year from 2008 to 2007 and the quote jumped to over $1000 with all my other details the same. I'm pretty sure there's been no real changes from 2007 to 2008 on the GT Sport TSI. Strange...
