Those 'Sport' badges must be a helluva lot cheaper than the straight 'GT' badges...

The prodigy had it right, Diesel Power!
I insured my GT Sport with Volkswagen Insurance (Allianz) with reverse parking sensors, tint and no claim bonus on windscreen for around $1300.
That's with 2 at fault accidents (minor rear ends)
Plus you get genuine VW parts.

TSI insurance through NRMA
In May, I obtained comprehensive insurance with NRMA for $593. Two drivers over 40, Castle Hill garage, max NCB.
Wide range in quotes (some were about $900).

First Golf: MY08 Candy White Golf GT Sport TSI DSG
Now: MY13 Candy White Golf VI 2.0 TDI DSG (yes, I've come over to 'the dark side'...)

That's not what I found, for me it was $100 cheaper to insure the GT Sports TSI than my GT TSI. Not only that, but I spoke to my insurer (RACV) about the 2yr new car replacement if it gets written off.Originally posted by BarneyBoy View PostThose 'Sport' badges must be a helluva lot cheaper than the straight 'GT' badges...
Given the original Golf GTs are no longer made and the new ones are GT Sports, they refuse to acknowledge that they are the same car under a different name (and slightly different paint/detail), the 2yr new car replacement scheme is now completely useless. Instead, they'd just pay you out under the agreed value or market value.

very interesting. care to share which state you live in and lock up garage?Originally posted by swarve View PostThe cost of insurance varies from suburb depending on the risk of theft. I pay $570 with AAMI for 08 GT Sport TSI
i have the same car but paid $1200 with NRMA. AAMI quoted me $2k

I work in insurance warhead and can tell you the difference in price is due to vehicle stats. As silly as it may seem because there are thousands of vehicle models and pricing is computer calculated every different model gets 'stats' and built into those stats is what the company has been paying out on that model.Originally posted by warhead View PostThat's not what I found, for me it was $100 cheaper to insure the GT Sports TSI than my GT TSI. If they are paying out less on a particular variation then the system thinks it's a lower risk hence the lower premium even for very much the same car.
Hope this helps explain it a little

NRMA -> ~$900 for windscreen protection and all the options for the car, for the same car. Without all the options I was looking at around $700 ish.Originally posted by BigMan View Postvery interesting. care to share which state you live in and lock up garage?

I managed to drop $400 from my GTi premium moving from Shannons to PayAsYouDrive http://payasyoudrive.com.au/. I only drive around 10K a year though so if you're an infrequent driver, try getting a quote from them.

I'm amazed what prices you guys are getting for GTi s.
I've just purchased a new Jetta TDi I'm 41, 5 year no claim bonus car is standard except for iPod and metallic paint and best quote was $960 pa CGU and new for old for 3 years if less than 50 000 km on clock or 2 years less than 30 000km. Further the car will be in a locked garage overnight.
Have I been put over the barrel by the insurance companies ?

I am on $1300 a year with shannons... but I have the possibility of doing any mods and listing any kinda mods. Which I have.. down to all my custom fiddling and adjustments.
Another valid point is the actual QUALITY of the insurance you have for the $$$ do they have a great reputation for paying out, letting you choose your repairer etc.
I know that if I get in a bingle I am confident of getting a good repair without getting issues. If i was with brand xyz-noname for $300 i would be worried.*Disclaimer - Don't rely on me, seek your own professional advice. Audi R8 E-tron. 230kw 4500nm! (not a typo).
