          jb747,

I have for the last couple of days experienced a similiar issue.

I was going to write a post until I read this.

          Are you in Sydney.

Sometimes my Sat nav doesn't work or when it did work it would
show my position about 20km away. This happened from Sydney's west until Chullora, then it would be back to normal.

As I left my house near Liverpool the screen had me driving through Prospect Reservoir.

I do not know if it is a satelite in the area that is stuffed.

          Anyone experience this?

          Regards,

My system simply isn't seeing any satellites at all. It never has done.

On Friday the software is going to be reloaded (though I don't believe this will make any difference, but it's worth a try), and the aerial is also going to be relocated outside of the car for a while. The suggestion is that the windscreen may have a metallic coating, which would make it opaque to the satellite signals. I think this is a long shot, but worth a look. Anyway, if reloading software doesn't work, nor moving aerial outside, then I'd have to consider the unit cactus.

Your issue does sound like the aerial isn't getting a decent lock. Where is it located? A shark fin, on the dash, or under/inside the dash?

And the software reload and aerial test happened, with no results. So, the unit is going to be replaced.

The unit was supplied by Harding Performance in Brisbane, and installed by Volkspower. I must say that they have been exemplary in their support. I wish all businesses stood by their services/product and treated their customers like these people have.

Good news JB is that we believe the next batch has arrived in AUS customs.

Also we rigged up our test bench today with a 20 foot antennae extension outside to test GPS before shipping (not that we have ever had that happen before - but now we will be 100%!)

Excellent, I hope customs don't take too long with them!

John, Your new unit has left Brisbane this morning, fully checked, latest firmware / latest map & GPS tested. So as long as the mars landing probe doesnt do anything to the sattelites by the end of the week, it shouldn't take Brett too long to swap it over. It should arrive (freight company permitting) on Thursday.

                        Hi Guy,

How much is it for the RNS system with installation?
I am pretty keen too...also will it work with a halfline MFD?

                        THanks,uomo

Brett installed the replacement system today. Within a couple of minutes it was seeing the satellites, and a little coding with VAG and it was up and running.

When I was initially looking at buying the RNS I considered buying via ebay and doing it myself, but in the end I decided that buying in Australia offered me support in the event of any issues. I was certainly proven right here, as I'd be up the proverbial if I'd gone with ebay. As it was, the guys investigated the possible causes for the GPS unit not coming on line, and then replaced the unit once it was shown to be at fault.

As I also regularly use an Eclipse AVN 6000, once I've had a bit of a play with the system I'll try to put up a comparison of the two systems.

                                Awesome news!

I will be interested to hear what you think between the RNS510 and the AVN6000

I just went the cheaper option and got the HiTV V2000 installed with reverse camera. The V2000 has absolutely NOTHING on the AVN6000 I have the AVN in our CX-7 and it is just such a superior unit compared to the HiTV unit.
