  • Timing Belt & Waterpump Service 105,000 kms

The time has come for the "Big Service", which from what I hear will be "Big" on my wallet too.

GT SPORT 2008 TDI 2.0 GOLF

Anybody know any good mechanics in the West/North of Melbourne that will do a good job, and won't rip me off either?

    Thanks in advance

For sure, but sometimes cheaper doesn't mean better. You have to put Genuine Parts and quality of work in consideration. Most of the quotes I've gotten so far are around the 800-1200 mark as well.

I agree. Don't chase the best price or even the company but the best mechanic. After all the quality of the work is dependent on him as long as there is not too much pressure from his boss to get the job done quickly.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

It's not bad, I've heard a lot of good things.
I'm sitting on 91,000kms atm, as I just purchased the car second hand and their servicing sticker from Volkswagen Frankston says the next service is due either at 105,000kms or February 2015 (Obvs past already).

Does this mean if I take it in for service, that it's time for 105,000km major service? (timing belt etc?) Or can I get a regular service and change the timing belt etc when i ACTUALLY read 105,000kms?

Yup you can just do a regular oil change, the timing belt is done at your discretion. However if the motor blows up it will be needing a reco cylinder head and belt kit at the minimum.

Oh okays, sweet. Is it worth going Volkscare just for a small service checkup? I'm scared they'll start charging me an arm and a leg for anything they can find? How much do you think I'd be looking at?

I note you have a 2006 TDI. VW recommend changing the timing belt every 105,000km or 4 years, whichever elapses first.

As yours is now 8 years old it is probably due for another timing belt.

Boris at Volkscare has always been very upfront and honest with me after several service snow. I'd go with his advice as to what needs doing.

                          Cheers,

Well that's reassuring at least , thanks !
Mind if I ask, how much was your timing belt service? (I know the major services can be up to 800$ and I just can't afford that so soon after buying the car, rego, insurance etc. )

I won't know until tomorrow when its in Volkscare for the major service.

The first one at 105,000k done by a dealership cost $2,388.90 but that included the timing belt and water pump, a new EGR valve and front and rear rotors and pads. .

Boris is much cheaper than a dealership and he uses genuine parts.

                              Cheers,
