    GT TDI Economy

Have just done 12,800km in me GT TDI and to be honest the economy truely depends on how one drives and the roads topography, the closest I've gotten to 1,000km on a tank is 970km and thats with vapour only left in the tank and filling it right up the neck of the tank. Not disappointed at all with the fuel economy though am a little sceptical about being able to get 1,100km's on a tank but will have to wait till I hit the magic 50,000km mark, which going by the amount of km's I do should be about Dec/Jan!!!

Yeah, i know if i had behaved i would have got over 1000, but the thing is its just too damn hard to drive that car for 12 hours and 21 minutes on some of the best roads in the country and not flick it into manual and give it some thru the twisties. that and its overtaking performance is astounding, 100- 160 in the length of a semi-trailer.

nearly as confident in overtaking as i was on a 2005 R1 i had.

Just did a trip to Mackay to detail 5 cars and a brand new prime mover for a good mate of mine. Filled my tank at the shell just after the gateway, got to Mackay ( 1030 kms ) with still 180 kms left on fuel to go reading. I did have a total boot full of detailing gear. I also was in no hurry so I sat on 100 kms on speedo dial with cruise on. ( 93kms ) on my nav, but as I said I was in no hurry. Larry TGT20

( Sure beats getting 350-400 kms out of my previous car (wrx).

I do a 30km run to and from work every day, landed in my garage with the average L per 100km @ 3.9 last night (on the trip computer). 1100km on a tank is very easy for me to pull off, if only my right foot wasn't so heavy some times. TDI GT done 12,300km just had its first scheduled service.

3.9? Is it downhill both ways?

I bang around town doing both urban and highway driving and I get around 7.

Lucky for me I get the twisty stuff twice a day (Winston Hills) which doesn't help

3.9, thats better than i ever got. most days i can get it to stay below 6 on the way to work and under 5 on the way home. what type of road is it u commute on. Even Melbourne to Geelong on the freeway at 110 on the needle i got it to eventually drop to 4.9

Thats the drive, around 6:30 some nights its almost completely free of traffic. Road works making over half of it an 80 zone, which is just above the sweet spot, most of the way, and being careful with the right foot. By the time I was halfway through the tunnel (traveling from Oakleigh to Brunswick) the trip computer was on 3.6 (just).

There is no way I could do this all the time, I love the feeling of torque too much, although it is a fun exercise to do every now and again.

I find I get better economy on the flat at around 70-80km/h than at 110km/h, though I have DSG. 4.9 between Melbourne and Geelong is pretty darn good.

Yeah, it seems to like being about 75 or so i noticed along the GOR on sunday. Are u DSG or manual?

best i managed on a richmond - airport return run late at night was 4.4 and thats about 30km each way.

Though i do tend to use the actual speed as opposed to the dashboard speed.

You may want to edit that link back there to make it a little less specific.

That's an awsome economy figure, I haven't been able to get my trip average below 5.0 driving it very carefully, it only has 1500km on the clock though.

How do your economy figures compare with reality when averaged over a whole tank ?

No worries, that link isn't quite where I go ;P

Actual figure is more like 5.4l/100km if I drive to work and back, a few shopping trips and don't go on a spirited weekend drive, but its pretty easy to go over that.
