whack it in Sports on city traffic and gas it, the car jumps gears, 3,4,5,6 and tries to take off in 6th. stupid stupid DSG.

    40km in 6th gear.
Never had that happen with mine. It'll sit in 2nd or 3rd gear in traffic for me.

Ditto, that behaviour does not sound anything like my DSG experience.

      Cheers

Sports mode needs to learn your driving style. Mine will change at under 4000rpm unless the foot is really heavy.

6 speed manual is enough for me let alone 7....
I rarely get out of 5th gear..... Usually keep my car in 4th on 80km/h and put in 5th on 90.....
And what a joy listening to diesel engine revving when using gears to slow the car down ( love downhill in 2nd at 60km/h)

Doubt we'll see the new 2.0TFSI in the Golf, i mean Audi already has the reworked version in the S3 and i've heard they are bringing out an RS3 with about 240kw from the same engine.

Fingers crossed they put a bit more oompf in the GTI

The MK6 version of the GTI is rumoured to be getting the new 2.0 TFSI engine making 180kw from the factory. Will be 6 speed manual and 7 speed DSG apparently. Will still be limited to 350NM as VW does not seem to be confident of the DSG boxes handling more for extended periods of time.

Unfortunately weight is also apparently up on an already porky 1340kg.....

MK6 Golf is due early 2009 with the GTI 6 - 12 months later.

Where did you read those specs on the Mk VI? I've been keeping a close eye on the news for some time and nothing has mentioned any of that.

Saw a few articles on Worldcarfans with some of it and another with slightly more detail on a UK site.

Will have to track it down and then post link here.....

I thought the RS3 was total speculation...would be sweet though

Im liking the sound of the Mk6 GTI, hope they get the styling right on it and dont take a backwards step like they have on the GTI (Mk3/Mk4) in the past...will see i guess! Cant wait!!

The styling isn't looking promising .....

Have a look at the spy pics on Worldcarfans, how can a company that built the new Scirocco make a Golf that looks so bloated .......

VW is also moving to shorter build time and cheaper costs (to build), so how does that translate to better in Mk6 form ?

It does look a little horrific doesnt it Id imagine build quality will be down too. I agree with you on the Scirocco, looks amazing....will be the new hero car for VW..

Build quality might actually improve - the Mk V is a pretty complex car and needs a lot of QA on the line. Material quality will probably take a hit though, as they need to cut costs - I've read that VW pretty much broke even on each Mk V built for the first 2 years or so.
