Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • 2007 Jetta

    After some advice...
I'm looking to purchase a used VW Jetta 2007. It is a 2.0L tdi auto with 80000 km's, full service history, 1 owner since new. Asking $11999 but I would start by offering $10500 or $11000. Recently had 80000 km service along with timing belt change and water pump, full solitaire service history, leather interior, reverse sensors.

Just wondering what you can advise about this car? The PPSR check came back clear. Are they known to have any particular problems? Anything I should be asking the dealer?
    Thanks

Auto or DSG? If DSG, oil needs to be done @ 60,000kms. If normal auto just change the gear oil... VW say sealed for life, but it's better if you just change it, piece of mind... Problem yeah, when people put petrol in them. Tandem pumps sometimes leak oil (what car doesn't leak oil?) - easy fix.. $3 for the gasket and an hour of your time to fix... If it has sunroof ensure owner hasn't left open and let water collect under roof lining which will cause it to sag... Apart from that not much, absolutely splendid cars. That being said I could tell you it's a good car, then you hand over the cash and drive it 5m away and engine blows up... No-one knows, but it's got low ks, sounds like its been looked after, should be a good buy! Maybe get a inspection done? Like RACQ or whatever, well here in QLD we have RACQ, not sure what your guys in SA have. Or you're welcome to drive it over to QLD and I will inspect it for you .

    Goodluck buddy.

Thanks for that, very helpful. It's a diesel so I assume it would have already had that oil change but I'll check the log books

What should I be expecting that needs doing and cost for 90000 and onwards servicing?

Timing belt due @ 105,000 but you have that done already so sweet for another 105k or 7 years. 90K service as per VW schedule is a 'major' - Pollen filter, brake fluid, air filter, oil, oil filter.. Max a service should cost you depending on if it's DSG etc would be around the $1500 mark (from a dealer), this being the expensive 60k service options, e.g: 60k, 120k, 180k as DSG oil is replaced. Apart from the general maintenance items you should be pretty happy with the costs. Try not to 'accelerate too hard' out of corners, torque of these diesels can cause wheel spin .

          Thanks for that.
What sort of money is this car worth then? They've advertised $11999 but I'd like to offer $11000 because I think that's more realistic. It's the MY08 model

If you are worried about value then check on carsales for the average private and dealer selling price I have not checked on the 2007 desiel but on the TFSI it is around 10-12K so I think $11,999 a dealer is around the money but negotiate anyway.

80,000km is low mileage for a car that old. I just bought one with 150,000km on it.

If you test drive it, floor it a few times to see how much smoke it blows. It may have a build up in the exhaust if it was only ever pottered around in.

It has a scratched up rear left rim, they are offering to have it fixed for $150. Is this worth doing or can it be done cheaper elsewhere? I'm in Adelaide. Managed to negotiate the price to $11500 for the car

Yep, that's about right on the wheel repair.

That's on par with the market value of the car. Just drive the wheels off it when you get it. Flog it, don't clog it!

Check for turbo leaking oil, but it's also a common find. I just sold my jetta with exact specs, was awesome car

                      Bought the car, very happy.

Noticed after purchase that the car doesn't have the Jetta and TDI badges on the back, was this standard for this model? There are no signs that they have been taken off. Either way, is there somewhere online that sells these badges?

In addition, I've heard about relatively cheap head units from the newer golf/jetta's, where are they best sourced from?

Someones taken them off. They are only decal-taped on. Do it properly & you'll never know they were there.

Ok fair enough. So do we know what combination of emblems the 2007 Jetta TDI has normally? Is it all chrome Jetta on the left with all chrome TDI on the right? Or is there a 2.0 TDI/combination with blue or red 'I'?
