Yeah, I'm going to change out the parkers, dipped and high beam and the fog lights. I've decided to stay away from LEDs and have just bought better quality halogens. The dipped, high beam and fogs are all Philips X-Treme Vision and the parkers are Philips Blue Vision bulbs (because they were cheaper than the X-treme vision version and didn't seem that different).

I switched the rear licence plate lights to LED though and I replaced all of the interior bulbs with LEDs last week (photos here: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...e-95270-5.html).

My dipped/high beam bulbs are all H7 fittings but at 55w. My fogs are HB4 and the parkers are W5W.

I bought on eBay from MetroDirectUK (part of the powerbulb company) and paid $36 a pair. They arrived this morning and took about 12 days from order to arrival. Interestingly, the same bulbs on the powerbulbs.com were $56 a pair! Go figure.

The HB4 fogs came from China but are OEM. They said they were in VIC but that's not true and I will reflect that in the feedback. However, they were a sharp price and arrived yesterday. I've not fitted them yet.

I bought the Philips over the Osram as they were fractionally cheaper but with more reviews and a very marginal difference in performance. I then decided to stick with Philips for the rest of the bulbs as I felt it would give me more consistency across the front of the car rather than mixing and matching manufacturers.

Thanks a lot for the advice guys. I will decide which ones to buy tonight, and then might post some photos once they are installed.

I guess it's not a big difference but it's still better, and I think your car will look much nicer with the new lights.

Believe me it is a big difference.
Makes the light a lot whiter and when you pull up next to a VY commodore with yellow lights it makes yours look pristine!

The Osam Rally's are the best light upgrade you can get for the halogen housings in my opinion.

According to the boxes, the newer bulbs throw more light down the road, something that you wouldn't necessarily see in a close-up like that.

I will try and get mine fitted tonight.

So I just purchaced Osram Night Breaker Unlimited H7's for $35 on eBay. I thought I'd give these a try and then if they are not bright enough I will try Osram Rally bulbs. Are Osram Rally bulbs legal tho, because it says off-road use only? I can maybe get them for the high-beams.

I also bought some while LED parker lights. I have to check what type of bulb my fogs are so that I can get them as well. Some people say that they are h1, some say h11 so I thought the best thing to do would be to open them up and check.

Good work. I didn't want to push it so I went with bulbs that I knew would be ADR safe.

I found the only way to be certain on the fogs is to pull them out as some cars came with projectors rather than reflectors and this changes the bulb. My online research showed that H1, H11 or HB4 were all possible types. Mine are HB4 (I pulled them out to confirm).

Yeah, I found the same info when I was searching. I think mine are H1 but I will have to double check.
Hopefully the H7s arrive soon so I can see what they look like.

                        Hey guys,

If it helps, here are before and after installing 4200k H7 low beam and 6000k LED parkers.
Manual exposure and white balance so this is the actual difference

Still a bit yellow, but the 5000k ones aren't road legal so this is the best I can do without going to HID

Hey swong, it still is a little yellow but I think it looks much better then standard yellow bulbs. How is the visibility when driving, has it improved much?

They've been on a while now so I can't really remember. The ones I have are supposed to be the same light output as stock.

In general though, the whiter you get, the lower the light output. This is because the whiteness is achieved by covering the bulb with a blue coating. Some manufacturers will overcome this by putting in a stronger bulb. The really blue ones (5000k+) I've heard are supposed to have rubbish visibility in the night, especially if it's raining.

So if you want better visibility, get strong yellow bulbs. If you want looks, get white/blue ones.

I got the white/blue ones so I'll see what they look like when I receive them and install them. Hopefully it looks better

So I got most of the bulbs installed last night (the passenger-side high beam and parker defeated me in round 1 due to the lack of space behind the headlight). I did the driver's side first and then took these photos of the differences. You can see the subtle colour difference between the new bulbs and the original bulbs.

                                (original bulbs on left)

                                (original bulbs on right)

As you can see, the Philips X-treme vision bulbs are not much whiter that the originals but seem to have a much better spread/coverage. I'm happy with these as I wasn't looking for a super-white look, just better output (intensity, spread and distance) as I've always felt a bit underlit at night (I wanted more of 'see where I'm going' than 'be seen by other people').

I'll complete the swaps over the weekend (headlight needs to come out) and do the fog lights as well.
