So, I insisted on installing a new head unit in my 2006 Golf TDI myself. Figured with no MFD/steering controls and a bunch of bought wiring harnesses it would be a cake walk. Installed it and it was working, though it wouldn't switch off. After a couple of days and a fair bit of research I decided to try a bunch of different options, 12v cigarette lighter, taping into the 6th row on the internal fusebox, switching the constant/switched 12v wires at the harness (none of which worked, the unit would never switch off).
Out of frustration I started getting careless and at some point crossed what I think was one of the 12v cables coming from the car's harness (can bus?) and either the new head unit or a earth somewhere
. All of a sudden the newer head unit, nor the OEM unit were getting any power. I checked all fuses, both under the bonnet and drivers side door - all seemed fine so I borrowed a friends Vgate scan and came up with the following errors;
Can Bus Gateway
Error 01305 - databus for infotainment
Sporadic 004 no signal/communication
Error 01304 - radio
Sporadic 004 no signal/communication
Give it to me straight vwwatercooled, am I going to have to scrap my baby and buy a Toyota Corolla like mum always suggests or is there still hope for me?
Halp!
